I've had my Clubman for a few months now. Let me give a quick rundown on the cars I used to own:
1989 GMC S-15 Jimmy with 4.3 liter V6 - it was a gas hog and never got better than 14 mpg
1990 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 liter V6 - no better: 13-15 mpg
2000 Dodge Intrepid with 3.2 liter V6 - some improvement but 20-22 mpg doesn't sound great when some Japanese/European brands got 4 mpg better with engines the same size
And my Clubman: first 4-cylinder car I've ever owned. 35-38 mpg. Wowzus.

I realized I have a habit of staring at the dang gas gauge whenever I drive. I keep telling myself, something is wrong with that gauge! But whenever I get to the gas station, it's correct, I really did get 38 mpg (I never go by the computer, I always calculate by hand). Once, I pushed Kazzie really hard with the sport button on. Mileage dropped to about 32 but that's still pretty steep gas mileage for me.

Anyone out there who went from a gas hog (doesn't have to be an SUV any big block engine car will suffice) to a Clubman and still hasn't gotten used to driving a gas sipper?

 

I went from a 07 Dodge Magnum SRT8 to the Clubman. 16-17 around town to 30-32 and 21 Hwy to 38 Hwy.

 

Heck, I was riding my Suzuki Bandit 1200 right thru winter and my new Clubman S is getting about the same gas mileage as the bike - yowza!! Of course, the bike is a wee bit quicker, but the Mini is oh, so comfortable - expecially in the rain and snow

 

My daily commute is short (5miles), it really hurts gas mileage.
2005 Murano AWD averaged less then 16mpg.
Clubman averages more than 29.

 

Ever been glad you had a vehicle totaled? We were! Let me explain...

We had ordered a new 07 Mellow Yellow MCS for the kid to take to school in Charlotte, NC. We'd steal it from him every chance we got. When he left, we were missing the MINI terribly. So we decided to get a Clubman. Problem was, we had a F150 SuperCrew to get rid of and gas was darn near 4 bucks a gallon. Well, as luck would have it, leaving our shop one day, the Sis in Law was drivingthe truck and an idiot ran a stop sign and totaled the truck right in front of the shop! So the insurance settles up and pays RETAIL for the truck. If we were to sell it, we'd have had to almost GIVE it away due to the 15 mpg! A week later we ordered our Clubman, Gizmo. Owning a body shop, I never thought I'd be happy to have MY car totaled!

So yea, 15 mpg in an F150 vs the 30+ in the Clubbie! And I still have a Diesel F250 when I need a truck.

 

I have a superchrged SVT Focus set up for track days and time attacks...17mpg. I have an off road battlewagon that averages 17mpg. We traded a 330i BMW...22mpg average. It blows me away, how much fun we have attacking the twisties in our new Cooper Clubman. 'Not even totally broken in yet, we're averaging 30+MPG's. Awesome!

 

Holy ****! I dunno if this is good or bad luck, maybe 50/50! Lose a truck AFTER leaving the shop!? I might be able to offload the gas guzzler but I'd probably still feel like mashing my head with a hammer over the loss of a vehicle after leaving a repair shop of all places. I guess the good karma swept in to save you after the bad struck! BTW, did you order your car or did you buy one off the dealer's lot? I ordered mine and lemme tell you, those were the longest 4 months of my life!

 

1999 Dodge 1500 Pickup, Lucky to get 14 around town and 17-18 on the highway.

Swiss Miss now does 32-33 going to and from work (down from when i was easier on the pedal, 35-37) and 38-40 on the highway.

 

My 08 Clubman seems to get roughly the same mileage as my departed 2007 Mazda3. Maybe 2-3 mpg more in mixed driving. Other than the very first tank on the way home from the dealer, I've never seen 30 mpg again. 17 fuel-ups.

 

I average between 25-27, Clubman S manual. I drive it to death though, and I use Exxon gas which has ethanol in it. When the fuel shortage happened, I had to use Shell as they were the only station with gas for a month, and I got 30.

 

Yep, that's me, although with a Justa. Can't get any fuel here in winter *without* ethanol, so I should factor that in too. It just boggles me to see almost-40 numbers reported, even though I didn't buy the car for its mileage. I have no complaints about the smiles/gallon, though!
