Theft of upgraded scuttle?

I purchased and installed the Black Jack Scuttles and they looked great. I had them for less than a month and went to a mall and Costo. When I came home, the passenger side one was gone and the light was loose. The drivers side scuttle was there but loose (pulled to the front of the hood). Has anyone else had this type of vandalism? You really cannot remove them unless the hood is open unless they are pried off. These are not cheap and if it is a common occurance, I may keep with stock ones. My other thought is to epoxy them on so they cannot be removed. I called my mini dealer and they had never heard of this problem. Am I just a lucky guy? I am sure this will only make sense to those who have put the new scuttles on themselves.

Thanks for the help

Mini265.

Regardless, vandalizing and stealing sucks!!

Sorry for the unfortunate occurrence, but don't let them get the better of you by feeling you cannot improve the look of your car with Goodies like upgraded Scuttles.

Regards,

nothing surprises me. i own an office complex and some customer cut the light cords from all the table lamps and took them. i thought the bulbs had just burned out and after putting in two new ones with no results i looked to see if the card was loose in the socket . i noticed then that there was no cord. needless to say the lamps and end tables left . next the nice couches were ripped after 6 months. so i have just el cheapo chairs. why i cannot tame the animals so they get what they deserve.

Vandalism???

Maybe not. I replaced the standard scuttles with the JCW. All was well. I must have hit a small pothole and when I got out, the passenger side was missing, light still in place. Checking the left I found that it was also somewhat loose. Had to order new ones and this time placed a small amount of glue near the clips-still on a year later. I used glue gun with heat so I could remove in the future if desired.
So, maybe yours worked loose. Even though they seem to clip in fairly well they can work loose.

Hot glue has been holding otherwise loose snap-on parts on my MINI for years.

I do what I can to not park anywhere I can't see my Clubbie. Especially at a movie theater. A few years before I owned a MINI, I remember seeing some teenagers checking out a MINI in a parking lot. The girls got on the hood and had their pictures taken. Poor little MINI! If not minor body damage, it was at least scratched. What draws many of us to MINIs also draws the riff-raff. Oh, I always remove my antenna ball even if I go inside a store for even a second.

As a union jack side scuttle owner I feel your pain. I had a similar experience with our Volvo. We did the overseas delivery and had Swedish plates for a while...until we parked at a mall and someone decided to take them = (

My antennae ball is gone -- recently. No one has messed with my stock scuttles -- no shock there. None of my badges have disappeared.

I've wanted upgraded scuttles since I got the car in July (Santa opted for things unrelated to my Mini). Given my 8-ball and the nature of this thread, if I get them, I'll glue them.

Very sorry to read this. Sadly there will always be vandals, not that it makes this any easier to have had happen.

I have aftermarket CF and one went missing. I had already torn up the first one doing a horrible job trimming it so I was out both

Ordered a new set and they've been on for several months with no problems.
