Dealer Tint vs Private Vendor?

I got a cell phone call from my MA that my Clubman "with any luck" will be available to pick up next week. He then proceeded to ask what "extras" such as floormats, tint or Lo-jack I'd like added. Frankly, I was pretty happy with the way I ordered it but agreed tint would be nice with our desert sun. He rattled off 3 choices the least expensive being $329. I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off price and quality wise with a private vendor. I'm not opposed to the MA making a few extra bucks but I'd just as soon give him a hundred dollar tip then pay an artificially high price on tint. I'm also concerned now that if I back out on the tint deal he might drag his feet on getting my Clubbie read. Any thoughts?

I'm finding your reply some what cryptic. Should I call around and find a better deal or call my MA and cancel. FWIW my dealer is in another city 120 miles away.

Call around and ask. Most dealers will contract tint work to another shop anyway.

I once, once purchased tint from the dealer. After that I learned you can get it done for a savings by calling around. Most tint shops give the same warranty. The dealer contracts tint jobs out, so do your homework and same some money.

I got my windows tinted from a local shop.. Here in NY it is illegal to tint...but I did it anyway... I have a PW/Blk Clubman and I got 35%, I could have gone darker, but since the windows are small, I thought 20% may be TOO dark and I didn't want it to start looking like a pimp mobile!! Good Luck!

I think you already know the answer to this question and that he is pointing out the obvious. I highly doubt your dealer does any tinting and subs it out to a local place that would have done it for a lower fee had you gone to them directly.

$180 for my Clubman including the two sunroofs. Don't use the dealer.

I totally agree that the dealer is overpriced, but I did it just to roll the cost into my payments. If I was to do it outright, I would have shopped around.

Living in the high desert, I will definitely tint my windows at a local shop, not the dealership. I have never paid the $350 that the MINI dealership quoted, even for a SUV.

To be fair though, the cost of the tint is dependent on the material used. You could spend more than $329 at a local shop (I did).

In Las vegas Altimer (pardon the spilling) does a super job! At least on my 2002 ford explorer sport when it was new. The tint still looks great for 5 years since installation!

My dealer wanted the same with only a 2 year warranty So a few minutes later I found a local shop to do it for 180 with lifetime warranty and a much better film. Do check local shops and ask locals who they like. Also make sure to ask what kind of tint they use.

Anybody in the Phoenix area recommend a tint shop? Did a web search and there are hundreds of them.
