R55 Auto-X Clubman
Auto-X Clubman
Well I may have been the first to auto-x the Clubman. This pass weekend I ran in our local club at Little Creek Naval Base, Va Beach, VA. I finished 10 of 98 cars by Pax time. The Clubman was in H-stock class as I ran against 11 other Mini's, finishing third in our MINI group. So the extra length and weight didn't hurt the car much. I'm hoping someone got a picture fo me on the course.
Sounds like fun.
In my neck of the woods the Mini is so small they let us track day them on both the big track and the Kart track at Moroso. Had to miss this months event but I'll be out in June for sure.

Thanks for info experience. Sounds like the clubman can
take care of itself.Looking forward togetting my clubman on the track. Going to run it stock to see what the lap times are before making improvements. I think the track
tires & wheels will point me to the suspension changes
that it needs.
thanks

The Clubman handling is great on the track. I took mine to Moroso a couple weeks ago and the Minis handled the best in the turns although I could use a bit more straightend power. The brakes work great in the turns. Braman posted pics at http://www.bramaninfo.com/racing/april13/ and I also have pics in my gallery. Turn on Sport, turn off DSC and away we go
!!!
!!!
'turn off DSC"...
Sorry, I'm an idiot when it comes to such things, but why would you turn it off? Doesn't it help with turns? (again, sorry for the noob question. I'm rather ignorant when it comes to autocrossing, performance, etc)

Turn off DSC for better feel thru the turns. I had DSC on to see how the transmission would respond and the engine would overrev at times as the stability control would kick in and try to correct the slippage. DSC would work better on a wet track. I tried DSC on a wet parking lot and control was amazing. I had DSC on my 540 and the rear wheels never broke loose, once I turned of DSC, the wheels smoked.
thanks for the reply.... Keeping in mind that mine will be Automatic (no lsd) and no Sport pkg, would that make a difference? I guess I just have to wait another week and find out for m'self :P
I haven taken mine to the track, but I am very impressed with the handling of my auto Clubman S with std suspension and 16" tires. This is coming from a guy that also owns a R53 S with Sports PLUS suspension = Hard ride.
We auto owners don't get LSD but at least we still get away with DSC.

There are times you want the car to break loose, or at least loosen up enough to get the rotation for the faster line around a tight turn in autocrossing. The DSC is great for the general public and when you get into an unexpected situation, but when you are coming into a turn and setting things up it sucks to have the car think you are getting "out of sorts" and try to "correct" things for you.

The DSC sucks when auto-xing it takes power away when your hard into corners. Forgot it once when driving our R-56 last year at the auto-x. The sport S/W really works getting the power down faster.
I was out with my friends today and I saw a group autocrossing at the baseball stadium near my house. It looked so much fun, i'm pretty sure that's one of the things I want to start doing now that I have a decent car!
