R55 Production number

Production number
Hi - new here. This forum is totally addicting. I've learned so much about a car that I don't even have yet.
Question about Production number - I put in my order almost 2 weeks ago and still don't have a production number. It's driving me nuts because I NEED to track my car and I'm unable to. How long did it take you to get a number. Is there something wrong at my dealership? It seems like most of you got your number within a day or so. I want to keep bugging my dealership but I don't want to appear like I'm harrassing them. I need therapy...

I think I have this right, and others may correct me, but basically the
production number is issued based on the dealership allotment. If the dealer has sold all the vehicles he is allotted for a given time period, he is not able to give any more production numbers till he gets his next allotment of vehicles. I am guessing that the larger the market, the larger the allotment.
Not to stress you out, but I am wondering if the order held up because the dealer has not been allocated any more vehicles yet.
I was able to walk out of the dealership with my production number, so I guess my dealer had not sold many at the time.

I didn't get mine until about a week or so later...ordered on 2/26 and finally emailed my MA on 3/8 when he responded by apologizing for not giving it to me earlier... I wonder if it has to do with waiting for dealer slots to open up in their ordering?
Have you asked your MA why he doesn't have one for yours yet?
Most of us need therapy.
P.S. I see that joejoe and I must have been typing at the same time.

Yep, has to do with the allotment. What probably happened is that all their allotted vehicles for a certain period were already spoken for, so you're on something of a waiting list. Same thing happened to me when I ordered my R53 back in 2006. This time around I got my PN the same day.
Just curious, which Mini dealer did you order from? I ordered at the end of March and already have an April build date scheduled (week 17), but I know the Mini dealer in Scottsdale is taking orders for June builds (entailing a wait until you get your production number).

i just posted this in another thread, but some dealerships in the NY area are running out of spots and now have ones only for AUGUST delivery. I hope this is not the case with your order ... and that your MA was upfront with you when you placed the order about estimated arrival.

Lurch,
He did mention May/June timeframe when I put in my order on 3/28. But I did not know about allotments. I assumed that production queue was based on when the order gets entered in the system regardless of location. I know the wait seems like eternity but it will be worth it (I hope!).

Us NY/Tri State Area folk get them a bit faster as I think its the first stop for the ships making the Transatlantic journey.

Finally got my production number. When I called ASK-MINI, I was told that my car is scheduled for production "with no confirmed production date yet" . While I'm glad to have a number, I'm bummin' that there is no date. I checked the Owners Lounge online and all my specs are correct, so I'm happy about that. But the wait for a date continues...

I ordered in March - should be receiving a production # this week and my MA projects late May/Early June delivery.
The dealership here is allocated 14 per month I believe - most are spoken for in special orders, some are weird configs and are still on the lot but basically their allocation is booked out.
My MA was completely up front about this fortunately.
Good luck w/the wait!

I guarantee you it will be worth the wait, for however long it takes. Plus our prices are so much better than in Europe and Australia.
What color/config are you getting? Mine's Chili Red/Black S.
Now I'm hoping to get a 2009 Cabrio to round out the MINI garage.
