Shedding the Clubman "Halo"

I was wondering if any Clubman owners have removed the "halo"--the black or silver band running from the top of the bumper, past the taillights, through the C pillars to the roof. I know MINI made this the Clubman's "signature" look, but I'm planning on purchasing a Black/Dark Silver Clubman S and have thoughts of changing the top of the bumper and taillight panels on the doors to Dark Silver for more of a "traditional" MINI look.

Anyone out there already done this? Have any photos you can post of your car sans "halo"?

Charlie

Questions

Thanks. Looks great.

You left the black on the top of the bumper. Too difficult to change the color? Or just wanted the contrast?

Also, how are the taillight surrounds affixed to the car. I've seen 3 screws/bolts on the front outside edge of the doors near the hinges, but it's not clear how the rest of the piece is attached to the rear doors. Can you advise if they're also fastened with screws; or are they held in place with 2 sided adhesive tape like other trim pieces?

Thanks

I dunno... I like the silver. It kinda makes it stand out in the crowd a little more than it already does.

Hi Chief, it's not my Clubman - I am a huge fan of the "halo", but then again I thought the Pontiac Aztek was stylin' . I just happened to see it on flickr so I passed along the link.

Here's someone in the UK: http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-club...ved-today.html

The one thing that doesn't look quite right to me is the broken beltline.

BTW, one vendor is selling replacement parts if you didn't want to paint your original pieces (although you can just buy them from the dealer as well): http://www.minspeed.net/CCP.htm

I think the original "halo" style is much more attractive and distinctive, but then it's just a matter of personal taste. The two-tone paint scheme is one of the Clubman's best features, in my opinion, and really sets it apart from all the other ordinary cars with their monotonous monochromatic finishes.

Hi Charlie,

Fuzzy is warming up his paint gun as I post. He was planning on just painting the roof of our MY Clubbie orange, but after COOPERation's art, he is going to do the halo too.

Nice, donchatink?

Go Fuzzy Go

Hi Sherry,
It was great seeing you both at AMVIV.

I like the art; and I think it will look cool with the orange halo.

Is Fuzzy going to remove the door and rear bumper pieces, or just paint them on the car? I'd be interested to know how these 2 pieces are attached and come off the car, then re-attach.

Hi Charlie!

Sherry posted snapshots of you and your daughter on MINI2.

I am not sure about the rear bumper pieces, but I am not going to remove the doors. That is the advantage of doing paint yourself, time is not money. If I have to paint in stages, not a big deal.

I have to take the front bumper cover and bumper off and mount the towbar baseplate before I can paint. Got to be able to tow it before I can think about paint. And I need to get off my duff and order the new tires for the Daisy wheels. It was so nice of Tire Rack to copy my original modded VW wheels, I just bought a new set on their "Nobody bought these wheels, so now they are really cheap Sale".

The original Daisy Cabrio is on the way to Wisconson, then on to the Dragon. The new owners opted for keeping the Daisy wheels, so anyone seeing them there be sure to say hello to the new owners, Mike and Sharon. Mike has a classic Mini, and has driven in the Interstate Battery "Great American Race".

Pictures will be coming.

Jim

I like the 'halo' but I gotta admit, when I was washing the Clubman yesterday, I was wondering how it would look with the 'halo' painted dark silver and leaving the lid silver. I would like to see better pics before I tackle that project.

They haven't started painting yet - if you mean the orange halo, etc.

When I first saw the title of this thread - I wasn't sure what it was going to be about. I like the Clubman both ways...but am much too lazy to think about changing mine (when I finally get it). I enjoy seeing everyone's photos... I do agree with those who find the stripes going down onto either the front or back bumpers as not looking so good - but I'm sure the owners love 'em.

I'm all for folks you-ifying their MINIs, but I must go on record as saying that in general the Clubman "halo" is a brilliant feature on the car. If folks want to dial it in from there, fine, but those who like it "as is" should also motor proud!!!

Huh. This is a two year project, and I am way ahead of schedule!

1. Finish the tow bar baseplate install and get the front of the Clubbie back togather.

2. Buy and install Sirius, Nav, and electronics countermeasures mounts.

3. Install Roof rack, install tow lights on rear bar.

4. Wire lights for towing Clubbie.

5. Mount the Konig Rewinds for the summer. (Thanks Dave, Love those wheels)
6. Saw Off the shift ****, and put the Whalen **** on.

7. Go to South Dakota for the summer. I think a M/Y Clubman will be enough shock for South Dakota, without the orange top and halo. Yellow and orange is for Vegas, Baby.

8. Buy tires for Daisy wheels, and paint center caps and mirror caps.

9. Paint halo and top. In time for AMVIV.

This car looks to be a keeper Charlie. I think you are correct, three screws and clips on the rear trim pieces. I will take one off as soon as I catch up.
