Uh, maybe it's the view, but I thought I was going to like the Crossman. Bad view I hope, because this just looks like a side view of a sort of higher Clubman. I wanted a more 4X4 look. I can see the true many lovers slamming me now over wanting a 4X4 looking Mini. Sorry

I doubt it will look like that. In that form it is simply an AWD Clubman. I have seen other "spy shots" of a much more suv looking vehicle, with 4 real doors. I would bet the pic in this article is just a Clubman that they are testing the AWD set-up on.

I've read somewhere that the Crossman will not be an AWD Clubman but an entirely different car. Especially it being built on a BMW chassis, having 4-doors and a hatch, and just plain being larger than the Clubman. I was going to have my wife trade-in her RX-350 and get a Crossman due to the assumed way better gas mileage but if it just going to be this vehicle depicted in the image, no way in heck will we do that.

This is the Crossman I saw/read about. http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080109....-and-rendering. Oddly, while the above picture shows 2 real doors on, at least, the driver's side, other photo's with the article show the clubman arrangement.

I think the photo of the MINI in the ocean is simply an artist's representation - a best guess what the final "Crossman" will look like. And I think the photos of the Clubman are simply "mules" that MINI is using to test/refine the AWD system. I highly doubt the final product will look like an (extended) Clubman, nor do I believe it will have 4 regular doors.

If they aren't releasing the product til 2010, I think we won't see the real body in the wild til next year sometime.

But I am excited to see what the final product will look like. Not sure it will replace our trusty LandCrusher, but who knows??

My $.02...

As my family grows, I may need this miniSUV of a clubman. I guess it's better than a miniVAN, though, I have always had an obsession with them.

I agree... no one would be dumb enough to drive a car through salt water.

Don't be too sure. You would be amazed at what marketing will attempt.

Look closely at the pic. See the driver safely buckled in......
