R55 Clubman Mileage
I drove about 700 miles yesterday and most of that was on a 75 miles per hour highway. Most of it was flat but there were some pretty good grades mixed in and I was getting around 40 mpg. Still really happy.
I went from a Tahoe Z71 to a Clubman.. so 14 mpg (with a strong wind to my back) to a little over 30 mpg is a thrill. I have 2250 miles on my clubman and travel fully loaded a lot with my wife, two kids and two small dogs. We get a lot of gawkers as we speed by..
( Thought I should clarify the "fully loaded" comment above as a car full of people.. ;-) ... before my witty friends on the list have a field day with my comments )

Tim, that is about what I'm getting. One bad thing is that my GPS reads about 2.5 to 3 miles per hour slower at 65 mph. When I'm on the highway at what the GPS reads as 75, very few people are passing me. So I don't know which one is more accurate.
I've had Sterling for a little over a month (mostly city driving) and he's been averaging 29.4mpg. My last car got 24mpg and my husband's truck gets 16mph. . .I can say I'm pretty happy with it so far.
I've driven a little over 1000 miles - The computer says 40.5 - Reality is 38.5. Cool little car - fun to drive - what could be better?

Thanks for all of the data! My wife and I have an '06 R53 Cooper S with the automatic and she tends to average 24mpg city/28mpg mixed. We are considering a Clubman S and would certainly welcome better mileage with more room. I'm curious to see what the Clubman is like vs. the Clubman S. I wonder if I'd miss the power much.
39.1 according to my calculator...not the computer. That was mostly highway.
Thanks Tim! Any S's out there with some hand calcs and their driving style details? Y'all seem to be running 29-32 & significantly lower.
Second fill Up.... All in town driving just over 400 miles.... tank held 14.371 gallons. I posted after my first fill up and the tank held 14.2 gallons. There must really be an extra big filler neck because the tank is not suppose to be that large. Using my car's mileage but I use a calculator to figure milage... 29.6 MPG in town is not bad.
We have the Clubman S and took it on a 1600 mile trip in the NC and Virginia area which included much mountains. On the road mountains and flat land got 36 mpg and am quite sure if we kept it at 70 and under would get 38. We live in a smaller town in Florida and get about 32 in town. Now have 4500 miles on the car.
Finally, I'm glad someone is reporting decent mileage with the S. It is rated at 34mpg highway (37 under last years old rating), but most are getting much lower. I ordered my Clubman S for mileage and was disappointed to hear many down in the 20's. My wifes Audi TT (225hp) has gotten as high as 38 with and extra 50hp over the Clubman S so I was hoping to top that.
Just finished my first tank from the dealer. 324 miles obc. fill up took 12.3 gal. and hand calculated 26.76 mpg. dissapointed a little though. 2/3 of that driving was highway at 65 mph avg (my calc) 126 miles total morning comute with cruise control on. This tank I may try not to use the cruise.
Also if you were to go thru all the calculations of tread wear and all that stuff you would find that on a normal tire during its life will change by a minimum of 1% (or .65 mph at 65) plus depending on the air pressure can vary another .5%. And then when you calculate the difference between different manufacturers you can end up with as much as a 5% error.
So asking the dealer to make it read 42 when you are going 42 and 65 when you are going 65 will only end in it meets specs.
This has been trhashed, trahsed, talked about over and over and over and the same conclusion is come to every time. You must learn to live with the difference.
And if you do not believe search the threads you will find this many many threads on this subject and all end the same.

So, is there truth to the fact the Littlebean is brand new and not yet adjusted to the roads here accross the pond and thus the mileage is so poor compared to others? I know it is only my first tank. The first half was great according the lights on the gauge for the gas tank but after the half it went down hill fast. And when I filled up it took 12.? gallons but the onboard computer said I had 68 miles to go, and 2 lights on the gauge. Did not want to chance it.

4000 miles on the MCS Clubman w/auto right now. We just did a 2700 mile trip out west (KC to Grand Canyon and back). A good mix of interstate, city for 3 days in ABQ, putt putting around Grand Canyon and moutains w/two big passes coming back across Colorado. We were always at least 20 mph over the limit and it gave us 34.6 MPG overall. Not bad! And yes, there was a 3 MPH difference between the Garmin and speedo...but I think it's the nav and not the car. I used the paddle shifters exclusively for a couple of days and the mileage improved dramatically.
I've put 5,000 miles on by Clubman S automatic. I get between 35-37 MPG. Most of my driving is highway and hilly terrain. I'm not shy about accelerating.
My on-board computer always shows I'm getting 2 MPG better than I am.
