Rear seat - wind reduction

Hello all

I know there is a wind deflector that easily installs for the front passengers - but what about a smaller one for the rear seats? We use our back seats alot and the wind is horrible. Has anyone ever seen a remedy for this? And no - I'm not putting the top up! LOL

Appreciate all your help.

I have the same question as well. I've seen this aftermarket wind deflector: http://www.autobarn.net/windspoiler.html and I've wondered whether it would help if attached behind the rear headrests. I have no idea how it would affect the air flow pattern and whether it would be effective. Somebody needs to experiment with a sheet of plastic or plywood to check the air flow pattern.

By the way, that aftermarket wind deflector is just as outrageously priced as the OEM version. It is over $200 for a simple sheet of Lexan. I could go to a local plastics shop have them cut a custom piece for much less.

I'm in the same situation. My kids love the top down but they dislike the wind turbulence back there.

So, I've been experimenting with various Lexan pieces from a single piece system to a multi piece system and I think I've finally came up with something that will work.

I'm about 2 weeks away from finishing the prototype (yeah, that's what I told myself about 2 months ago...) and once it's done I'll do some more testing and will take pics of it.

I'd love to find a solution for this too - my fear is that the effect of the air coming over the windshield actually does it's thing just behind the front seats, but well before the back of the rear seats - I've never actually ridden in the back of the cabrio, to tell if the wind is coming from the front, the rear or the sides... I suspect from the front and sides. It seems a little better with the windows up... but still pretty bad...

not the only one

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I have sat in the rear seat a few times and it does seem to be from the rear and sides. At least that's always the way my hair is blown - LOL

I might build a test one of these for the back seat. I'm concerned that there may not be enough clearance behind and above the roll bars to have it on when the top goes up & down, though... I need to play with it some...

Absolutely correct, that was one of the issues I came accross while testing my rear piece. The heigth and placement of the rear piece is critical since there is very little room for the top when it passes the roll bars. You have to mount the piece in front of the roll bars or in between.

Blimey, you're also correct in your assumptions of the air flow/tubulance happening between the front and rear seats. However, the rear roll bar screen does cut down on that turbulance. How much is still debatable!

A few days ago I had my kids back there with all of the pieces of the (uncompleted) prototype in place and the air flow was reduced significantly. I was testing the air flow with a few pieces of string tied to sticks that my kids were holding on to. I noticed a cicular air flow pattern happening back there but in a more controlled situation.
