If you can't wait for the official version of the MINI cabrio, there is an alternative. A convertible version of the New MINI has been seen.
Photographers from German magazine Auto Bild spotted the car out on test. Few details are known and no official information on spec – or even what sort of roof it will have – is available. However, we can reveal that the cabrio is the work of the Sussex-based Bespoke Car Group, and is not a BMW-approved product. The converted drop-top is expected to be launched in the next few weeks, and will go on sale in the spring.

Mechanically, the cabriolet remains the same as the standard car, which must be supplied to the firm for alteration. However, the company is reported to have strengthened the body. The work, which is only likely to be carried out on the entry-level One car and the mid-range Cooper, will cost around £2,500. The official MINI cabrio is not expected until 2004.
