Wind deflector

Is $340.00 an ok price for a wind deflector? I found one on ebay for that amount and I was trying to compare the price but I couldn't find other prices anywhere, not even in MINIUSA.com

^^ $340.00 looks good... I was lucky enough to get one used from ebay for under $300 including s/h from a former MINI owner a few months ago.

I used it this morning with temp under 55F. Worked perfectly

Bud, I got news for you. NO Windscreen is going to let you have the top down in Chicago/Milwaukee at Christmas!

Give us a hollar when you get here! There won't be any club runs during that time (some people don't drive their MINIs in inclimate weather up here) but be sure to check out the Chicago and Milwaukee club sites for events

I remember seeing pics where someone with a Cabrio was cruising with the top down in the snow (they eventually rolled over in the snow, in the MINI ). They were wearing a parka and it looked REALLY cold . I'll have to search for that pic to see if they had the windscreen. But you're right, it might not help that much if it's that cold I'd try it if I had a heated garage to make it easier to put the top up and down

Be on the look out for me becasue i will have it down, not for long tho!
My brother-in-law makes fun of me about the 90% topdown motoring so I am going to show him. We also made a bet about me doing the Polar Bear Club thing in New Years day...you know I have to win

I can't believe any person that lives South of the Mason Dixon line could stand even 20 minutes up here in the winter topless.

We took a cabrio out for a test drive with the top down in the snow in January here in Ohio. With the windows up, the butt warmers on, the heat all the way up and hats and gloves on we actually were pretty comfortable. And we didn't have a windscreen in the test cabrio. I'm excited to try it out this year with the windscreen. I think it'll be fun during the first snowfall and then probably lose it's novelty shortly thereafter!

I used to tool around in a VW cabriolet in the dead of winter all the time... Gloves and a coat + hater made it fun, still, sort of like how I remember it being on my motorcyle in winter in Chicago. I plan to repeat this in the winter with my Mini.

I have a question - does the wind deflector require installation or is it something that simply fits into the convertible without any assembly or installation?

Thanks!

Chuck

It just pops in to pre existing holes. It will take you longer to unfold, than to install. BTW I leave mine in all the time even with the top up, just fold the vertical piece down.

You will not regret it. Windscreen up, windows up. Heat on all around. There's barely any air movement in the cabin from the outside, but you still get the great headroom!

Morristown MINI

I purchased mine from Morristown MINI via ebay for $300 new + shipping. Morristown has an ebay store that sells the same item for $340 but they also list the same item new under auction with a buy it now price of $300. $340 is still a good price as the list price is $375 to $400 from most dealers.

Okay, toughing it out in the winter with the top down sounds like it's not for everyone. But what about the rain? I was driving up I-29 here a few months back, in the rain, and saw a guy driving a Sebring with the top down. Which wouldn't have been unusual except that it was pouring rain. Until I got up close to the car and I realized I KNEW the guy driving it. My pal Steve. He's been sober about 20 years but at one time had racked-up about 17 or 18 DUIs back when a driver could get away with that. He was having the time of his life, laughing his *** off as people gawked at him on the highway. I later learned it was one of those Chrsyler moments (anyone who has owned one knows what I mean) and that he felt like the only recourse was to abuse the car. Not like the guy can't afford to, he's got money up the wazzoo...,,, He turned it into a Katrina car in one afternoon(!)

I've drive under the rain a lot, I had a 02 Sebring before the MINI and I got rained on a couple times on that one. In the MINI when I was driving from Memphis to Nashville on MTTS I got went twice and once as we went through 'the Land Between the Lakes', alcohol wasn't involved in my case but I did had a great time!

I got mine on ebay for $325 new which included shipping. (Morristown MINI)

It does make a difference. I have been using it with the top down with no problems even though the temp reached the low 40s. Then last night it was 52, I had the heat up full blast and the bum-warmer on high but I was still shivering. I was wondering what was wrong. Then I realized that the wind deflector had been removed that day when I had people in the back seat. So I stopped the car and put the deflector back in. The difference was incredible. I even turned the heat and the bum-warmer down and was comfy for the rest of the ride.
