I haven't tried top-down motoring in the rain... I DID witness that feat on the way home from MTTS-Indy

As the temps start to drop, using the windscreen makes a big difference. Windows up, heat on, seat warmers used in the mornings. I'll have to leave a pair of gloves in the car to go along with the hat and jacket for cooler temps.

If you can afford a windscreen and you plan on any cool weather motoring, it's a must

Okay guys, I think I did pretty well on this one...$295 for a basic all-black windscreen from Mini of Morristown on Ebay...and that's INCLUDING shipping!

Hello 2ndMini,

In answer to your question, I THINK they do have one more at that price. I believe it was the same deal I got - 285 to start, 340 for buy it now. I just got very lucky and didn't have anyone else bid on it before auction's end. They only charge $10 for shipping (seems pretty fair!).

I agree with you...I really had a hard time putting up the money for the wind deflector, but after reading all of the glowing recommendations in this thread, I finally decided to place a bid. From all of the reports I've read, it sounds like this thing will be the best thing since sliced bread...or so I hope!

Sue-

I'll give you mine at the meeting if you are still unsure of if it makes a difference...it's HUGE! It's an expensive little piece of crap, but wow motoring is a whole lot more pleasant with it in.

here's a couple of shots for you. It's not a real good shot of the windscreen, but it's back there

I'd like to take a second to thank all in this thread who encouraged me to get a wind deflector. I got mine today (Morristown Mini was kind enough to 2nd day air the deflector to me for an additional $13 so I'd have it for the weekend!) and I have just finished taking it out for a trial run.

With the windows rolled up, it makes for one hell of a turbulence free ride! Truly an outstanding product! Although I must say...I thought it looked a lot smaller than it does in most pictures I've seen!

I've folded the top piece down and I've left it in place inside the cabrio...I'll probably be using this item quite a bit.

For those still on the fence and can't decide whether to get a windscreen, how about this... I just got back home after several miles of motoring. It's sunny but it's 46F with a breeze. Top Down with the windscreen, windows up, hat/gloves and the seat warmers on. Drove a few tame twisties and took a short trip on the highway to boot. Got as many strange looks as grins (probably people wishing they could go top down too ). Very little cabin wind, even on the highway.

machineguncharley and MY2ndMINI, congrats on your purchases. The windscreen is a must and well worth the cost. Motor On

Thanks MiniMac...it really is hard to explain to someone what a HUGE difference this item makes during a ride. It really is sort of a weird sensation to be motoring along and the only wind you can feel is the very top of your head. The lack of turbulence in the cabin is nothing short of phenomenal!

Is it below 40F ??? Is it snowing??? I think, if it's between 40-60F, then the windscreen will help prolong the top-down season for you You might have to wear a hat and gloves and make sure the windows are up... but if the sun is out, give it a try

I went for a spin last Sunday morning and it was about 40F when I left the house. I got many strange looks from others because I had the top-down, but I was fine (until I started playing football )

Burrrrr....

it's just getting cool enough down here to go topless 24/7!

I got mine off e-bay from Morristown Mini before my cabrio was delivered (liitle x-mas present to myself). Use it all the time 'cept when I need to put groceries in the back seat.

...snip...
I was just thinking the same thing! Sunny summers in SoCal require the top UP during the midday hours to prevent crispy skin! Hot Summer nights on coastal roads are perfect for top-down motoring too.

Autumn allows for enough filtering through the atmosphere for comfy top-down driving most of the time here.

What we need is a good Jeep-style Bikini Top that just provides cover directly overhead for protection from the sun, while leaving the sides and back open for breezy motoroing enjoyment!

Oh yeah, just to stay on topic: the wind deflector is extremely effective for ameliorating cold raw days with the top down - and the butt-warmers kick *** too!

Ok....Here's a crazy idea... Has anyone taken their basic black Wind Deflector, and tried to put a template (of anything) on it, and sprayed it on? For example - masked off everything but a MINI outline, or checkerboard, or flames or anything - then sprayed the exposed area white/or any other color??
Anybody tried this?

Not a crazy idea. I would geuess that's exactly how MINI creates their checkered flag version (although already applied to the fabric before mounting it).
