Rear Visibility

Has anyone removed the head rests of the rear seats? I assume there is a single screw/bolt in the middle of each headrest. Are there any removal hints?

Does anyone have images of what the Cabrio looks like without the rear headrest?

Are there any issues in removing the headrest, aside from lack of whiplash protection for rear passengers and asthetics.

Has anyone modified a naked rear rollbar (sans headrest) to improve it's look?

Also, has anyone tried to relocate the rear view mirror upwards and behind the air-bag sensor to be able to have a better view behind them.

I appreciate NAM's previous threads regarding mirror adjustment, multivex and accessory mirrors.

Headrests

I Asked the same question regarding the headrests. There's a flat piece of metal that's welded to the roll bar that's the same size as the padded portion of the headrests themselves. I don't have a pic but some of the promotional pictures MINI circulated when the cabrio first came out included a picture of the body structure (including the rollbar) without any interior trim or seats. So removing the headrests won't gain any better rear view.

I don't think the cabrio would be as cute without the rollbars.

I got a multivex mirror (http://www.multivexmirror.com/) which has really helped with the visibility and has eliminated the blind spot. It was my first mod.

It's pretty amazing. The mirrors reflect an almost 180 degree view of the sides and even the back.

I am not talking about removing the roll bars. I am talking about removing the headrest. However, if there is a metal plate under the plastic, then removing the plastic is moot.

I don't want to compromise safety in sake of safe visibility I assume the metal plate is for strength during a roll over. Does anyone have an opinion about the metal plate otherwise?

I've posted about the Multivex mirror before and I highly recommend it. Do a search both here and on MINI2 forums for more information.

I couldn't agree more. I have Multivex mirrors http://www.multivexmirror.com/ on every vehicle I own, and have given them as gifts to other folks, just for the improvement in safety.

Put the multivex mirrors on makes a big difference. I can see what behind and beside me. Make it almost fun to drive with the top up.
