Seat Coolers?

Well, the butt warmers and wind deflector are a great way to lower the temperature range for topless motoring. But what's a topless motorer to do when it's 90+ degrees out and sweaty leg/back syndrome takes over (oh you know you have it too!)? I found these while I was searching around for new toys for the MINI. (Note that they're shown IN A MINI, is it a sign?) Has anyone tried anything like this before? Think it's worth the dough?

This does sound like a great idea.

Anyone have a review of them?

My friend's new AMG Mercedes comes stock with heated and cooled seats. And it was only $100,000 more than my MINI!

That makes the 50 bucks seem quite resonable. I did end up ordering one, it'll be here on the 2nd of August. I'll let you all know how it works!

OK, I will play devils advocate for a moment here....

Is it just me or do these look TERRIBLE? Aesthetically they seem like they will not fit the seat well and will be uncomfortable to sit on... I LOVE the idea of A/C seats, but I don't see these being a great solution either. I am the type that wants things integrated, or at least not looking like some cheap add-on, and that carries over into the interior as well. So, my take is that they will do a wonderful job cooling our backs and buns, but we will sacrifice looks and "seat comfort" aside from the cooling. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

By the way, I have owned an all black convertible car before, so I totally understand your reasoning for this, but to me I think this is worse than one of those thick fuzzy seat covers you see in plenty of convertible cars.

Ummm, who really cares what they look like when they are being used? And, who can really tell, anyway, unless you have eyes out your butt? Besides, they can be stowed in the boot when not in use.

What about the air bag sensors? Aren't we NOT supposed to put the wooden massage seat covers on our seats? Wonder if these would be the same.... hmmm....

Sweeet. I've stated several time that they should offer a/c seats in the convertible. I live in Florida with a MCSc and that would definitely extend my topless time.

Please post your review as soon as you can

Hmmm...just read an essay in Motortrend magazine about air conditioning for the butt, sounded like a great thing. I knew it existed, but had never spoken to anyone who had them. Would be great for the recent never ending 100 degree plus days around here, plus any time I can leave the A/C off and take advantage of more power and mpg, the better.

I can't wait to get mine. Even though my delivery is slated after the cool front appears here tomorrow, I still gotta head over to Indianapolis next week and am sure it will still be hot there. I figure anytime I do not have to use my a/c and still drive comfortably [as in cool] in my leatherette seats and with my windows and sunroof slightly cracked open, it will be a plus. Yes, I'll be sure to make posts.

A friend (and fellow MINI owner) just bought his wife an '07 Lexus 350 (ES, I think). When he told me it has air conditioned seats, I went crazy. THAT'S AWESOME! I can't wait to see how the Lexus ones work, and am curious to hear how those who ordered the "seat mod" for their MINIs fare.

It's hot out there -- STAY COOL!

I would like to see better seats on the MINI. Power and cool seats would be awesome. I may look into having some from another car retrofit into my MINI.

I guess these may be nice, but the first is only $120 and the second is a steal [?] at $225.99 [on sale]. For the $50 I paid to cool my butt during the heatwaves, I'll take my chances. Besides, my MINIs already have heated seats.

Yeah, I'm hoping the $50.00 ones are worthy too.

Well, the seat cooler arrived this afternoon. I was excited to try it out so my husband and I had to take the MINI for a spin to do some scientific comparisons. (Any excuse to take the MINI out, right?) We did a very scientific study involving the amount of change from baseline back hotness and sweatiness to seat cooler back hotness and sweatiness. The end consensus was, while the seat cover may not shoot out snowflakes (as the packaging suggests) it will indeed decrease the accumulation of back sweat. It doesn't necessarily feel "cold" behind you, it's more like the effect you get from having a fan blowing on you while you're in a hot room than it is the feeling of an a/c blowing on you. While I wouldn't call it comfortable, I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable either. There are three elastic straps to hold it in place, two of which are adjustable. For 50 bucks I'd say it was worth it, and I don't intend to send it back , but as to if I would order it again, I'll have to try it for a few more hot days before I said for sure. I definitely felt more comfortable after driving around and when I got out of the car my pants and shirt weren't all gross feeling, and the same went for my husband. Hope this gives you all some insight, and I'll be interested to see what welshmen thinks!
