2005 Cooper S 84,000 miles.
When I press the button to open the top nothing happens. No lights, windows don’t roll down and top doesn’t move. I have a Foxwell scanner. I tried scanning the convertible top module but it failed to communicate. I think the control module for the top is bad. Is there a way to test the module?

The problem started after having to charge the battery after the car sat too long without being driven. Prior to that the top would open to the sunroof position correctly and the latches disengage and roof would slide back a few more inches when I pressed the open button a 2nd time. If I pushed up on the top while keeping button depressed the hydraulics would take over and finish the job.

 

Make sure the boot door and cargo shelf switches are fully depressed.
