Different convertible top issue

Hey guys. Need some help. I've been searching for days and can't find anyone having this issue. When I open the top the passenger side lags. Not the sunroof part where the cable could be bad, the whole top. Basically picture the passenger side being a half second behind the drivers side. So when The top reaches it's fully down position, the passenger side isn't fully down. And when I go to fully close it the pins don't fall in their hole, the fall to the right so the top doesn't close straight.
To see what happened I opened the top half way and grabbed the drivers side and tried to push it back and forth, it's nice and solid. Did the same to the passenger side and it has about 6 inches worth of play. Is this a hydraulics issue or something else? Thanks.

Ok. I'm gonna take it to BMW. Hopefully they don't charge me too much to tell me what's wrong. I'll let you guys know how it goes for the next guy who has this issue. Thanks anyways.

Hey Jorge- Depending on where you live, there may be a quality, non-dealer shop that can take a look at it without breaking the bank. If you let us know, someone in your area may have a suggestion.

It's been a while since you posted, and obviously nobody chimed in for the offer of a mechanic, but what has the outcome been on this? Judging by your discovery of the one side being loose I assume hat some hardware loosened up or let go completely?

Took it to south motors BMW. They charged me $160 for a diagnostic. I basicat told them the issue and that the tensioner bar that holds the top fabric so that it looks flat when the top is up has two cracks on it. This has been like this for years. I told them to tell me what was wrong and to not tell me it was that bar. $160 and 5 days later. They blamed it on the bar. I also have an overheating issue and a limp mode for 10 seconds ever morning issue. They blamed this on air in my cooling system and a loose spark plug. Which there was definitely jk air in the system cuz I know how to bleed it and the spark plug couldn't have been loose. I know because I put them in myself. The spark plug issue ended up being fouled plugs cuz I bought new ones and replaced them after bam failed to even see the actual issue. Car still overheats. They charged me an additional $70 for tightening the spark plug and bleeding the radiator of air. Aka nothing. So I did my own tests and found that I have a bad head gasket. So not I'm looking for shops to do that for a reasonable price. Otherwise I'll do it myself. Moral of story: south motors BMW is a waste of time and money. I'll get to dismantling the top when I fix this heating issue. Thanks

The sad part with auto mechanics, and probably too many other mechanics as well, is that the "mechanic" isn't particularly good at what he/she does and nobody at the dealer or garage for that matter really gives a hoot either. While I will admit that cars are far more complicated than they were even 20 years ago it is quite disheartening to see experiences like yours as the norm instead of the exception. I guess that it is easier to be a lousy mechanic and not care about anything than it is to have pride in what you do. the paycheck is all that matters to too many these days.

Sorry that you had the experience and I hope you are lucky in your DIY repairs. Not very encouraging for those who actually need to pay to get things done though.
