Can anyone tell me what the make and model is of the automatic transmission that is used in the 2008 "S" Cabrio? Is it the same one that is used in the 2nd generation MINI's?

 

I believe you have a 6 speed Aisin transmission.

Same as a gen1 r53...cause your car is a gen1 r52....(supercharged)

 

I am assuming this NOT the CVT transmission that has so many issues...is that correct?

 

I actually have a 2010 "S" Cabrio, but am thinking of selling it due to the carbon build up issue with the DI Turbo engine. I was thinking of picking up an 08' "S" Cabrio, but want to make sure they have a good auto transmission and are supercharged. I notice you have a 2010 as well...any issues? I had to take mine in at 22,000 miles for excessive carbon build up, bad instrument panel, and bad fuel level sensors. I don't think there is anything you can do about the carbon problem. Some people talk about catch cans, but they apparently only remedy the problem at best.

Correct. The S models never got a CVT.

 

The 6-speed auto is supplied by Aisin (Japan). It's also used by Ford, VW, Mazda. For the Mini the factory code is GA6F21WA.

Yes. Same transmision in the Gen 2 cars, both S and non-S.
