From Bridger:

"Update: While the photos were up for awhile this morning I've decided to take them down in order to fully comply with the BMW press embargo. This despite the fact they you will see them out on the web today and this evening. In retrospect it's best to fully comply with their wishes since they are the ones with the photos. Of course full photos and text will be posted Tuesday."

The MINI Cabrio has the antenna on the top of the windshield in the middle. I does look kind of weird.

Gabe,

I agree with you.

You provide valuable info and by complying with their embargo you're playing by the rules even when others are not.

Yeah I'm really sorry guys - I had to take them down. I just felt that they were drawing a little too much attention. Anyway they're all back up now (it's tuesday in the UK!) so have at it!

Um, <cough cough FUGLY cough cough>
Wonder how much this puppy is gonna rattle?
The Mini Cooper is meant to be a hardtop.
This purist is not impressed.
Of course, they'll sell every one they make,
with a nice markup, of course!

I'm sort of relieved. My plan was to grow old with my MC, making us both classic. But I'd feared I see the cabrio and want one. Nope.

It really lost me in the second shot, the full sidel. cutting off straight across the window line makes it look too... words fail me: plain, boxy, simple? It isn't as bad, though it still detracts imo from other angles. The hinges on the trunk look like they belong on another sort of vehicle.

I agree that they probably will sell quick at inflated prices just like the New Beetle convertibles. In their case I thought it improved on the look though.

the hinges were designed to play off the original Mini's boot hinges. They look fairly similar.

I like the look of it, i would get one for sure if i had the cash.

It can use a little work to be for me, but isn't that what owning a mini is about customization

It looks OK, but unlike the new VW Beetle, being a convertible doesn't improve the looks. I especially don't like the windshield mounted antenna.

I still like the normal hard top. To me it loses a bit of its MINI look. But I'm not much of a convertible kinda guy. I didn't even get a sunroof on my MC. My wife loves it.

I've got mixed feelings about the new center gauge. The earlier close up shots I really liked, but on the dash it looks busy.

The center gauge, as it is shown, is optional.

What's on that center guage. I see two guages over the steering wheel, which is the case when you have the Nav option

I like the idea of a convertible Cooper, but some of the execution is sketchy. Does anyone else see...

an underbite:

Hi, gang  . Just curious --> why the big fuss over just the antenna ?? I'd say that an aftermarket stubby/shorty antenna would take of that quite nicely ... Agree/disagree??

I like the MINI Cabrio, Antenna does look a little goofy but the rear seat rollbars look really nice. Definetly like the looks with the top down. Did they perminently change the instrumentation for the Cooper and Cooper S for 2005? I hope so because I really like my big center speedometer and now I'm glad I bought an early model.
