Mould smell coming from A/C

Hi There,

I'm noticing a pretty strong mould smell when I turn on the A/C in my 07 S Conv. It is particularly noticeable just after I turn the A/C off but I'm also aware of it just in general when the A/C is on.

Any clues on what could be the source and how to fix? I'm at about 45K miles and still under 4 years - do you think this would be covered by warranty??

Thanks,

TC

Most auto places sell cleaners areosol or foam you spray into the intake....it will kill the growths on the condensor....the dealer will do the same thing.common issue. Sometimes a plugged ac drain can make it worse. Common to ALL cars of every type in the last decade.

Here's a DIY for the filter change. Good luck.

I'm not sure where the intake is these days? Is it still under the wiper blades or....??

One more question - what is the difference between the microfilter and activated carbon filter types?

Thanks TC

There are 2 choices...the carbon filter...absorbs odors...and regular white.
On fresh air the intake should be br the wipers....you can hear it with the fan on hi...
ZEP sells fridgee fresh.....there are several products out there....
I bet after a bit of use, it goes away...a filter is a good start ...
the ac freshners/cleaners can help too.

as far as I can tell, just the type of paper used . . . oh, and the price!

the auto-a/c comes with the carbon filter while plain a/c gets plain paper but they appear to be of the same size and construction so they are interchangeable...

in theory the carbon is better at absorbing oders but I think frequent changes plays a bigger role.
