Warranty Top Replacement--Change Top Color?

Hi All!

Has anyone had their top changed out under warranty and allowed to change the color of the replacement top?

I have a Cool Blue with a black top that is going in for a top replacement prior to the expiration of the warranty. I want a BLUE top instead of the black one that it currently has.

Mini Customer Service says they won't do it, but the prices are the same for black or blue. I know the part numbers would be different for the warranty administrator but why is it a big deal?

Anybody had any success getting a New Different Color Top from Mini?

Any suggestions?

THX

Did they at least offer a REASON why they won't do it ? If they refuse to give you a reason, call MINIUSA and see if you can't get it done or get a reasonable explanation why not. I can't think of a logical reason.

And if, for some reason, the blue one has a higher price, ask them if it's okay if you pay the difference.

Thanks for the reply,

The dealers I have talked to are agreeable. It is Mini USA customer service and the zone people that are the problem. I had to call Mini Corporate in N.J. to get the MiniUSA rep to even call me back.

They have not given a reason yet, but I told them they need to give me one and they would have to be pretty creative.

I told them I would pay the difference in price if needed. The zone rep said no. I said find me a zone rep who can say yes and I will take it to that zone.

They just want it to go away. I have bought 5 minis since 2002 and have never asked customer service for squat. So far customer service has failed to even come up with an idea on how to get it done.

That's insane. I can't imagine their logic in not working with you on this. To not give you an explanation, let alone a reasonable one, is just horrible customer service. Wow.

I bet it's the system that's refusing the different part #. It probably requires the exact # for warranty replacement. Procedure is procedure... the German way !!!

How was your vert top damaged?

Exactly. The warranty adviser can only change like parts. Now whoever designed such a system that does not allow a choice is German. Porsche could deal with it however.

The top is an original '05 and has lots of fray and wear areas.

Porsche is a different game altogether. You can request their assembly workers to wear latex underwear while building your customized vehicle and they would do it because again... procedure is procedure.

Good luck with your request. I have a Cool Blue with the navy blue top and you're right - it looks quite nice.

RESULT: Black top.

The only option was to BUY a blue top for $2200, let the dealer install the blue one and then keep or sell the black one that would be ordered as the replacement. Considering the hassle just getting the old top replaced at all, I was burned out trying to talk to the MiniUSA and the zone after a week. What a waste!

$2200 for the top only or does it include cost of installation?

$2200 was only for the new blue fabric top if I wanted it instead of the black. Installation was extra (full day labor), but mine was covered under warranty. I did not have to pay to have the original color top replaced.

A full day's labor will tip it over $3k easily! Wow, that's pricey!

Thanks for the info.
