Picking up our MCc tonight

My wife and I are picking up her new car tonight.

She got a 2006 Pepper White MCc.

It has 37K miles, H/K Stereo, Cold/Winter package, cloth interior, second set of wheels with snow tires, 1 owner who was fairly meticulous. She had all the service record reports from the day she bought it till now. Only sold it because she is having a baby and getting a clubman.

We kinda of just fell on this car, we had been looking, but weren't finding anything local and thought we were going to have to fly somewhere to get one. This has more miles then I would have liked, but being local and talking to the owner is a big bonus to me. Other then the miles it is in great shape

We got her (name yet to come) for $19K (think we did okay?)

Pictures to come soon!

Also remember: Citations will be issued for closed motoring especially if the TPDNPLC catch you! Enjoy your topless motoring!

You did fine. I assume it has about a year left on the MINI warranty, or 13,000 miles. That's plenty of time for any bugs or problems to work out.

At $19K you did well. I am not shy about what I paid [plastered it all over NAM]. Mine is a 2006, same as yours. Perfect shape. 23,500 miles, two years left on warranty. $20,000. See my gallery for some pics. Crappy shots, but I was in a hurry.

Our prices were a good deal as I have been following prices like watching a stock, even after I have got mine [about June 5, 2008.] Your car here in the Bay Area, used, goes for about $20K to $24K, the S about $24K to $26K. [$20K being a good deal, $24K being on the high end. Don't know if they sell at that price.]

Read up on NAM. There's a ton of info to address any questions you have. NAM has saved me a lot of money and lots of future misery.

Bonus Comment: IMHO 37,000 miles is not high for a 2006 MINI. I have had BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and one American car [I slipped and bought on impulse ]. I like to think I know quality and junk when I see it, more so than the average driver. The MINI has amazing fit and finish for a $25 to $32 thousand car.

There are some detractors of the MINI. But my car is tight, runs solid, everything is well built, and unlike many people in here, my car does not have a single rattle in the interior. I am ****, probably OCD, on rattles in my cars. I even have those mechanic stethoscopes to trace down the source of a rattle.

I am amazed that my MINI has no rattles, especially since it is a convertible. The lack of rattles is a testament to the quality of the MINI's engineering.

Yeah, MINIs have failures. But all cars do. Don't even get me started on talking about my BMW 740i that had a fuel leak, dripping over an engine exhaust manifold. And I prefer not to think about my Audi's electrical issues. And the time my Toyota 4Runner's starter motor failed, at a gas station in the middle of nowhere on the way to Los Angeles. And I don't want to be reminded of my Mercedes' turbo failing on the way to Lake Tahoe, with a hot date [I'm not talking about the fruit ]. Or the SL's tranny going out and needing a $9000 warranty replacement. I digress, forgive me.

And remember, the MINI cabrio is meant to always run with the top down, unless it is below 40 or above 90 degrees. I have not seen one, but MINI dealerships required new MINI owners to sign a "contract" saying they agreed to always keep the top down. Guess you escaped that binding agreement.

Keep two jackets, gloves and some ball caps in the MINI and you are good to go under any conditions.

I drove all week in central Missouri (near Branson) with the top down at about 96 degrees. Sunscreen and a hat took care of any problems, played Bluegrass Junction on my XM, which fit well with the countryside. Turned a lot of pitiful Cardinals fans heads.

Sorry, but I can't put the top up, even in the heat.

Sorry, but I can't put the top down, in anything over 80 degrees.

I melt in the sun and heat puts me in a foul mood.

And at that level I have to wear a ball cap so the sun does not blaze on my forehead.

Disregarding the source of the picture [where the blazing hot sun caused my brain to malfunction and drive in a reckless manner, allegedly] as you can see the sun does not agree with me, both mentally and in damaging my look.

I should sue MINI for not having warning labels on the sun visor about the danger to one's appearance if driving with the top down on a hot day.

Since we are telling purchase price stories, I might as well jump in....paid $21,500 for my '05 MCSc with 48k on the clock. Here is Austin, TX MINI's are a scarce commodity. I was not particularly looking for a convertible, but once I saw it, I had to have it.

Particulars (for comparison):
Hyper Blue/blue top
48k miles
Xenon with washers
Premium package
Sport package (17" wheels)
Cold weather package
Chrome package (interior and exterior)
Smokers package (ugh...I guess you get a lighter)
Chrome mirrors
Ambient light package
Interior body color
Storage package (whatever that is????)
Harmon Kardon bastardized with Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD in dash head unit with headrest monitors (I know what a waste. I hate it and would rather have OEM Boost radio back as the steering wheel controls do not work).

Run flats removed (yeah!).

Belated congrates David, that is indeed a very good deal. To throw some more numbers, my 05 MCc with 39k on the clock was $18k, a fairly plain jane model, except for the paint, hot orange and blue top. Was the only cabrio for sale in 300miles, and while not enthused about the paint at the time, it has grown on me.

Reliability, I've had my share of issues, all taken care of under warranty. Knock on wood, everything is now fixed for a long, long time. I tend to put a lot of miles on my cars (150k avg), so I'm keeping a close eye on this one.
