The brand new MINI I drove tonight would open its roof to the sunroof portion with no problem but would not lower all the way. Everytime I would push the button, the red light would flash. I tried everything, lowered all the windows, driving, not driving, engine on or off. Re closing then re opening.. Nada..

A defect already?

 

The parcel shelf in the boot has probably come out-of-place. If you look at where the two pivot "pins" at the ends of the parcel shelf fasten into the car, one of them activates a little pressure switch to let the car know the shelf's in position. If the switch isn't pressed in, you can only open the roof to the sunroof position.
