R52 Well at least I got the 1st ding out of the way
Well at least I got the 1st ding out of the way
Imagine my joy on Saturday afternoon when I picked up my new to me 2005 MCC. She is Chili Red, and I think I will name her Carmen.
Anyway, about 2 hours later we pull into a restaurant to have dinner, and a thunderstorm starts building. Everything is fine, just a little wind and rain...
Then the rain starts going sidesways, and the leaves are swirling, and the power goes out in the restaurant, and then the gun shots..
Well, not gunshots, but rather quartersized hail. After my intial panic, I realized that there was nothing to be done until the storm was over. The aftermath was some dents in the bonnet, but the roof held fine, and no leaks, which is a good thing.
Like the title says, I was bound to get a ding eventually, might as well get it out of the way early.

I used to take a small ball peen hammer to create my own ding somewhere that would not be noticeable to sort of divorce myself from the grief of finding the first ding, but I couldn't do it to Basil. Sorry to hear of your hail experience....
Man, I sure do feel your pain. Wife's last car was her first vertible, and not too long after she bought it, we had the usual may/june hail storms. One of them had pretty hefty sized hail and did $3900 worth of damage to the car (about 200-300 dings everywhere). When she looked at it the next day she sat down and cried for a long time. Now that she has a brand new MINI she's totally paranoid about hailstorms, and of course, this year the storm season is even worse (we're having one right now actually). So I'm crossing fingers her car will survive and not be "blessed" with dings for the next few weeks.
Hope yours heals quick.

Thanks for the concern. It should be quick, just a couple of dings to bump out.
I think I have found a good body shop, but will probablly put out a post here on the forum for ideas. This place seems like a great resource.

Cool!
Btw, just one caution. After they take out the dings, keep your eye on those sections of paint. We used a dent doctor here also to remove her dings, but for some reason the paint on hood and trunk lid started to come off and peel right where the dings were. Nowhere else, just hood and trunk. My guess is that they used a different primer in those areas, or the paint wasn't cured as well from the factory. Ask your dent doctor if they guarantee the paint not to crack there afterwards.
