Top Adjustment Recall???

A couple of Puget Sound MINI members have reported a recent recall on a "top adjustment mechanism" on their '05 convertibles. Doe any one here know anything more about this?

They said they were just doing this for people who had a problem or complained about it.

My Service Advisor Terry @ NWMINI said the same thing.. I guess it's an alignment brace, so not really a recall so much as an addition? There's some info on the web about it, can't seem to find it this morning. I

There is indeed a silent recall I believe on the top adjustment mechanism. From the paperwork I have from the previous owner, looks like a recall was done on it sometime in 2006. Interesting to note that there were wear marks on the top when I bought the car (shiny spots), but I thought it was fairly normal. I did have the dealership check the adjustment again just to make sure, and to my surprise they replaced the entire top. Excellent service.

I was in for my 60,000 mile service on my 05 a few months ago and they adjusted for a wind noise on the passenger side. Not sure how, but no more wind noise. I thought that they fixed it with the window (making adjustments on the up travel) but it could have been done on the top. I was just glad it didn't cost me anything since I'm almost out of (extended) warranty.

2005 Mini Cooper Cabrio:

I just had my top replaced - the top would open so that the folds folded in at one point - causing the fabric to rub against a sharp bit of the top. This left a hole on either side of the car, on the edge, right above the rear windows. There were also matching shiny spots just above those little holes.

A there was a recall notice that had never been attended to on this car (I just bought it a few months ago). Additionally, the back windows have cresent-shaped scratches at the base. The replacement parts for that are backordered nationwide so that has to wait.

Top adjustment?

I had my top replaced by the dealer last week.

I went in for an adjustment because the passenger side window was not making full contact when closed and there was wind noise, a slight leak (hard rain or car wash), etc.

I showed the service advisor how there was a very small gap on te driver side, where the top meets the windshield and a significantly larger / uneven gap starting on the antenna and growing towards the passenger side. I also showed him the wear spots and white stains.

I got the car back with a new top after more than a week of work - got a new auto transmission as well, mostly due to hard shifting from 1st to 2nd, but still same gap and noise / water.

Does anyone have the detail on recall / update / enhancement to the convertible top?

Thanks,

N - .

We took in our 05 cabrio with the same scratches on the side windows everyone else has. The service manager said that because it was repaired once there was nothing they could do . They aren't gonna replace or remedy the problem that's causing this ! Keep in mind this is my wife's weekend car with only 23k miles! oh well.

That's mularky. My dealership has replaced my top twice under waranty now. I really don't understand the logic that allows them to say well we fixed it once, now it's your problem.

I second that - I've read here on NAM of tops being replaced 2 and 3 times. The windows on my cabrio were to be replaced but the part (a seal I think?) is on national backorder according to Nick Alexander and they weren't able to replace it when they replaced the top. I did notice that there was some lubricant coming up on the back window so it looks like they were trying to do something to help. I'm going to check back in a couple of weeks for the status of those parts...
