R52 Convertible drip
Convertible drip
Hi,
I've got an '06 Convertible. When it rains hard, I get a tiny drip from the corner of the convertible top - where the top meets the windshield, on the driver's side. I get about a drop every 15 seconds or so.
I'm used to driving old convertibles, and have always had a drip like this somewhere on the convertible top/windshield seam, but was expecting better from a brand new Mini! Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal, or a defect?
Thanks!!!

Mine doesn't leak from there, but I've had it in a touchless car wash a few times, and it drips from the spot where the two side windows meet at the top. I'll have it examined at my next visit.
I wouldn't tolerate any kind of leaks on a brand new convertible. I had a 77 mgb that would leak occasionally, but that was almost part of its charm.

Check the drain...
From previous posts, there's supposed to be a drain hose located inside the A pillars. I'm assuming that it's behind the hole that the pin from the convertible top frame slides into. It's possible this hose might be pinched or plugged. Wish I could find a picture, though, as that's just based on what I've read. I know treating all the rubber on the top will help repel water. Don't accept any leaks, that will ruin floorboards over time. Mine is dry as a bone.

They do not like it when you go through a automatic
Car Wash.
MINI does not recomend high pressure hoses, or touchless, automatic car washes, because the roof will leak there, and on the B pilar. Their adjustments seem not to do the trick, try "gummyflege" thats what MINI calls it. It willl make a better seem and condition the seal.
If you are cheap vasoline will do.

If you got a convertible, never go touchless. Of course, I only hand wash my Mini
I had a slight leak about the passenger side window and took it to the dealer to have them check it out (among a few other things). The service advisor told me that there was an "unannounced recall" on the tops to have them adjusted, so they did it and no more leaking. They said they were just doing this for people who had a problem or complained about it.

Looking at it, it looks like there is a seam on the bottom of the convertible top (right above the side windows) that runs the length of it and stops just short of the "A" pillar. You can watch the rain stream track this from the back of the car to front and then down the side window. So when the door is opened the rain enters the car and falls right on the seat.
Does anybody else have this or should that seam be longer and track this rain to the windshield or closer to the “A” pillar?
Just to be clear. My top does not drip when the door is closed. But when the door is open to get in..then the rain tracks from the top right onto the seats.
Since I had to get my new plates this week (part of Support Group Week 10 and only had her for about 3 weeks) I spoke to the Master SA (I think that's what they called him). He told me this is a known condition even with the Hardtops, Mini knows this and there is nothing he could do right now. He noted it on my account and will notify me if/when there were any service bulletins released.
Is this true? Why only 3 of us see this issue?

I had a drip before my roof was replaced. The drip was from the passenger side corner. The new roof is apparently fitted better and have not experienced any drips even in the torrential downpours we have been seeing here all-too-often, of late.
So what you are seeing is clearly something the dealer ought to look at and fix.

Fortunately, it doesn't rain much where I live, and when some accumulated rainwater does fall from the roof onto my seats, it's no real biggie since they're upholstered in cloth. If I had leather seats, on the other hand, it's a design flaw I might not be quite so forgiving about!
Ok for us, gee I hate to us this word, newbee's, what is 'gummy fledge'?
