I have a cabrio and 2 cats that love to sit on it. I will say that it's plenty irritating to see them on top of it, and they know now that when I come out and they're on top, they better hoof it. Having a lint roller (with the pieces of sticky stuff you tear off) has kept the top nice and hair-free. But my cats don't scratch the top - they just sleep up there.

I will say that I had the car parked in the driveway one day with the top down and had the alarm on. As I passed through the livingroom, I saw one of my cats jump OUT of the car, as the alarm started sounding! I have since parked my car with the top down a bunch of times, and haven't had the alarm go off again. So apparently for one of my cats, the loud noise was enough of a deterrent to keep her from making the seats her new nap spot.

Good luck with your dilemma. I hope you can find a way to keep your car from being damaged!

Like I said on page 1, .22 subsonic hollow point, Very low noise, Very CHEAP to buy, and NO more issues. The only problem is that this should have been done the 1st time the cat was caught in the act before anyone other than you knew about the problem cat. The owner would have thought that the cat had run off or it got squashed on the road some where!!

This is MY opinion, as the original post asked for ways to get rid of the cat problem, this is how I would do it. If you don't like my methods, too bad, don't let your cat FREE ROAM in my area, because if it does something other than walk through my yard it will NOT do it again. I grew up on a farm, we had people drop off stray dogs from the city, they would chase our horses and livestock, and sometimes kill sheep in the area, that was the last time they did that.

I live in a development now that DOES have cats that FREE ROAM, I think they are a pain, when I drive up my street and see 3 or 4 of them running across the road back to their owners house. They have Not done anything to my property, so I have lived with the irritation. If the situation changes I WILL react appropriately.

Even if you deter this cat what is to say that another cat does not take up residence? Personally, I would either enclose the car port with netting (soccor goal style) or get a car cover and use pepper and/or other deterrents from the pet store. Have you thought about laying some plastic over just the roof - something the cat would probably not like to sleep on? Would not take very long at all to throw over and pull off.

Sometimes I put an upside-down cheap vinyl table cloth on top of mine. Works fine and it's not a PITA to put on.

an automatic CO2 BB gun that holds 10+ BB's works. you can get off 5-6 shots while he's running. these little BB guns are only 350-375 FPS and won't even break their skin, just stings them a little.

cats, birds, deers, etc...will start to learn that you're shooting them and will stay away. they really communicate this to their buddies

i wouldn't shoot them with my pellet rifles nor anything else that would kill them b/c a cat is a big F'ing thing to dispose of. plus you may just wound him and he'll be crawling home with hole in his side, etc.

I'm a cat (and dog) lover. I have 2 indoor-only cats of my own. My neighbor's sweet but too friendly cat was tormenting mine daily, by sitting and also spraying outside our windows. It drove my dogs absolutely batshit, too. When I opened my doors, he would try to run in. I had to remove him from the garage on several occasions. He's sweet, but I don't want another cat.

One day, many months ago, I dumped a full 2 quart pan of (cold) water on him. No harm done, and he's not been back, even though he's almost always outside. I'm just sayin'...

Our local news did a "Does It Work" story on this product. Really got the cat's attention.

My parents had expensive "outdoor" furniture ruined by the neighbors cats. My dad did not try to deter the cats he videotaped them. (His camcorder has a motion control feature) The neighbors were absolutely responsible and after getting the bill they seem to have found a way to "deter" their cats!

not to mention paint. OMG can you imagine a brand new car getting cat claw marks all over it? a factory quality paint job would require stripping it down the the bare metal, etc. that's like a $3-5k paint job.

then the cat may do it again after the repaint. this is way worse than having a cat on a soft top IMO.

and i'm almost convinced that birds purposefully aims for cars when they poop.

Having read this thread through and LOL at some good ones....NEVER confront the owner(s) as they are too stupid to care anyway. I would rig a motion sensor or pressure sensor on the top and set a relay to trip a bucket of water (Don't forget to turn it off as you walk up to the car! It would also deter any would be thieves. After this cat is scared off something else will take it's place so keep an eye out. Just think it could be alot worse! My sister-in-law had baby mice fly out of her heater vents!
