Sound deadening a cabrio for an aftermarket exhaust ????

i just installed an ireland exhaust on the cabrio and love the sound! not obnoxiously loud but you know its there.... especially at WOT

problem is.... my wife drives it more than me and she doesn't understand why i would modify a perfectly good car . i have to make it a little more quiet in the cabin or i might have to take it out has anyone with an aftermarket exhaust installed sound deadening material (dynamat, etc) in the back seat / trunk area to quiet the cabin... how'd you do it and did it help much?

I did it with "Fat Mat" Same type of stuff as Dynamat..Got it off ebay for much cheaper.. I did from back of boot area under rear seat and down to the rear floor. I didn't do the rear floor but if you have enough mat might as well. I used almost 5 pieces of 18'' x 48'' material. Made a noticable difference, but not a huge difference.. I'm happy with it though..

was it difficult removing the seats and carpet to get to the boot area? any directions would be appreciated!

i'm also gonna put the fat mat in the trunk area under the piece of carpet that covers the battery area and the battery well too. if i need more, i heard dynamat sells something called dynapad that i can lay over the entire trunk floor or.... maybe a blanket will do

The rear seat just pulls up and out. The backrest part is a PITA. I didn't remove it completely, but had to take about 5-6 bolts out and then had to take the plastic side panels loose to be able to pull the seatbacks up enough to get under them with the mat. I did the boot floor and into my tool kit area. I have a cooper so battery is in front. No carpet underseat and a strip of it under the back rest that is molded to fit.

The rear seat backrests should have been quite easy. The procedure is exactly the same as for the hardtop rear seat. Fold the seats forward, unscrew the single bolt between the seats, which allows release of each seat from the middle. Pull the seat back up to about a 45 degree angle, then you can pull the seatback off from the side panel.

i decided to use sound deadening material to quite down the noise coming into the cabin (caused by the aftermarket exhaust). btw, i went with the ireland engineering single exhaust.

i ordered fatmat rattle trap off of ebay. i've heard good things about fatmat and it was cheaper than dynomat, about $100 for 50 sq feet @ 80 mil thick. the fatmat basic is 50 mil. i applied the material under the rear seat and the trunk floor/battery compartment.

the rear seat cushion came out easy enough but i could not remove and the rear seat back rests. and yes... i did read all the posts about removing the one bolt between the seats and lifting 45 degrees up and out but it did not budge. the trunk was pretty easy too. all in all, for my 1st time doing this it took me around 3 hours.

took the car for a test ride and i'm happy with the results.... i believe it did help quiet the exhaust note in the cabin and hopefully my wife does too
