Naturally each driver has to make their own determination as to which tyres (that's Brit speak) are best for them, but I am sold on my Run Flats. I was coming home from work one evening after a long day at work. I was on an area of freeway that does not see much traffic after 10pm. While doing about 75, I noticed my little red/orange flat tyre light and did begin to feel a little drift. I slowed it down and made it home. Sure enough I had a flat tyre and believe you me, it was hot to the touch. As it turned out the tyre bead, when the tyre had been installed had never snugged up tightly to the rim and dirt finally made its way in and cause a separation. The tyre was removed scrubbed and reseated with me back on the road again. Who knows what would have happened with a regular tyre on the front with me doing over 70. At a minimum, I would have been stranded by the side of road waiting for road service. Call me nuts but I even like the stiff feel. No cushy ride for me.... I want to feel every bump and road gruve. I am at one with the road...

I have driven stiff sports cars my entire life. In "softer" feeling cars, I feel like the stearing wheel has become detached from the car. I still have my first car, a 61 VW. Now that is talking stiff. Even my MINI can't take a speed bump without slowing down! Don't tell the bug, but he thinks he's a sports car. Let him keep that dream.

I don't mind my run flats either. Sure, they're stiff... but, so what??? I love the performance and handling. I'll wait until it is time to change before I reevaluate.

Do nonrun flat tires give the same sort of handling? What is the expected usable mileage? What are other options? Should I stay run flat?

...too many questions!

non runflats are significantly better than runflats

but everything is a compromise. my dunlop direzza z1 star specs lasted about 9000 miles including 3 autocrosses and 3 track days. i hope for the same with my bridgestone re-01 pole positions. these are ultra high performance summer tires.....they run circles around other tires performance wise. but they don't last as long, and you need to carry a can of slime in the car. for me, the drop in weight and increased responsiveness/performance are a no brainer. it's one of the easiest things you can do to make the car handle better.

ditch the run flats!! you'll thank me

Check out my NAM Garage. HERR B was first and still has a place in my heart, so he gets garage time too. I am not the first owner but I have known all of the owners. I am the fourth owner and my Dad was the third. My garage also has his story and tells all about how he went from "just another bug" to HERR B, the real Herbie's cousin, somewhat removed.

That's a great bug, nice story. Once upon a time we had a 69 bug convertible; hopefully it's still trucking on with (what were) young kids that took him to Texas from Mass..

Yes, this is thanks to MINIBee's Motoring Merchandise. I have the shirt, the sweatshirt, the mug, the button..... The only difference between this picture and my MINI is bonnet stripes. I believe this picture is of a silver MINI but it works for pepper white too. Enjoy, I get a great many thumbs up with this design. Love my Sidewalk and I know you love your's too.

When I first saw the wheels on the Sidewalk I was not too sure about the design. Now that I have owned the car for nearly a year and wash her every weekend, and after washing my sister's MINI Coop with the silver "S" wheels, oh how I love my black wheels!

You will most certainly have to share stories about Yellowstone. Oh and don't forget pictures!

1) Pic on the way
2) ZVR or "Z" short for Zippy von Richthofen
3) Virginia
4) Astro Black
5) Cooper S
6) 30s,
7) I'd rather be bombing along I 66.
8) We're Not Gonna Take it, Twisted Sister
9) Mods when I get bored with it in stock form.

Hey guys, my little sister keeps trying to steal Zippy. Not gonna happen. Anybody know of a manual Sidewalk S with the Cold Wx package for sale anywhere? Prefer blk, but BRG or Wht will do nicely. Malt Leather a must.

Yes I was at the British car show. I was just reading about the bike race, and how great it was to have VIP tickets...sounds like you had a great time too! Great weekend in Philly!
looking forward to meeting you soon!!! We don't have any plans for any upcoming events but that usually changes quickly!

New "HOT" look for Styla

Mike from AC has made a wonderful product that has made Styla look hotter than ever before. My wife and I (complete amateurs) installed the sidewalk boot and bonnet stripes in about 90 minutes from scratch (including time taken to remove the MINI emblem and license plate). Here is the final product for your viewing pleasure. The top of the bumper part on the boot stripes did get crinkled as we were not careful after the turn while we were working upwards the from bottom . Mike was kind enough to give me a discount for a repeat order of the boot stripes. I wanted the redo the bottom part as I would settle for nothing but the best for Styla. Comments and quesions are welcome.
