Gonna have to sell my MINI already

if I can't stop speeding.... wow, for a little car, it flies.

I'm used to driving 450-500rwhp vehicles (miata, corvette, H2) so I'm used to vehicles with enough hp/tq to turn the wheels over at will but this little supercharged mini FLIES.

Speed limit on our local hwy is 65. I was in 6th gear just cruising enjoying the ride. I looked down and was doing 87. You couldn't even tell, the car is smooth, quiet and responsive.

I'm definitely going to move my radar detector out of my H2 and into the mini cause I'm gonna need it.

On another note, I pulled up next to a coupe mini today and he wouldn't even look over to acknowledge another mini.

Tis okay, love the car and can't wait to take a long trip. My parents are driving up from FL. to Tenn to look at a mountain home so I'm gonna take the mini from NC to Tenn. just so I have a reason to drive through the mountains.

If you see an idiot with stupid sh*t eating grin on his face in a HO mini, WAVE... I'll wave back.

Mark

I'm have trouble connecting the thread title with the content.

Was it sarcasm? Probably was but I'm pretty dense.

BTW have a great trip in your new luxury go-cart.

Dusty

PS: I wave every time!

I had the same thing happen to me last night and at least one other time in the past week. Very disappointing when it happens.

Oopsie - better watch that! I find that my MINImum speed is around 50...hope I don't get caught!

And the non-wavers suck! I live in Texas and all of the other MINI's I've encountered have waved heartily. Sorry you're finding less-than-friendly fellow motor-ers.

Yep, I have to say that I love my radar detector. I live in Virginia where it's illegal, but what's not now days in our beautiful state of outrageous laws. Although Virginia did just throw out that $3500 excessive speeding ticket law because of the pressure and dislike from tax paying citizens. My detector is just more of a piece of mind thing. I don't really speed around all the time. It's just an insurance for that rare time that I'm cruising along at 61 in a 55. I'd be the one to be pulled over and ticketed even though everyone around me was passing me at 75. It's just my luck. Or maybe it's just a owning a red car thing.

As for the waving. I have more Mini drivers not wave than wave. But, I've also been know to actually be paying attention to the road and not everyone around me a time or two and miss a Mini driver waving until it's too late to wave back. I think that's an excuse, although really wordy.

Just a reminder Waving is good Posting how fast you are speeding in your MINI is not

Most of us who are spirited drivers have been guilty of going a little too fast, just don't brag about it.

I SERIOUSLY looked at that thread title, and was like WAHT THE $%@^ After ALL that about getting your baby!

I was glad to see that you have a GREAT sense of humor about it and got a good laugh!

I am glad you like it so much. Drop by me up in DC, I'll wave, stop at the light, have a chat, and pass you some Grey Poupon

Definitely much tougher to keep the speed at a "reasonable" speed -- according to lawmakers anyway. But pshh, what do they know?!?!

I just used my sport button today. Ha. Awesome!

Lois,

Just to make sure my post was understandable, I wasn't "bragging" about how fast I was going... I was making the point that I had no idea I was driving that fast... I didn't say it was a good thing, I just couldn't believe that the speedometer crept up that fast.

If I was bragging about speeding, I would have mentioned the time I got clocked at 168mph on my motorcyle....

I was just making the point that for such a little car, it's sooooo smooth. I've been driving a supercharged V8 Miata and a plain supercharged Miata for the last year and those cars definitely FEEL the road. No chance of you mistakenly going fast.

The mini feels like a luxury car compared to those cars.

As for the waving thing...

I've encountered 6 minis in the last 2 days and NOT ONE has waved. Two of them, believe it or not were Hot Orange.

Sure as heck now, I'll see another mini, refuse to wave and they'll be the one to wave...lol.

Mininurse.... grey poupon....

Mini S pilot.... installed my passport last night. I tend to speed a few miles over the limit on a regular basis but always try not to exceed 5-7 mph over the limit around town. Detectors don't avoid tickets but they are definitely a "helpful reminder".

Dusty Bottoms.... yep, I was being facetious/sarcastic.

MINIs are very smooth and stable at any speed. My brother's Honda Fit feels like it's doing +75mph when it's only doing 40mph. You have to love the quality of MINIs. Durability and reliabilty? If you want that, buy a Honda. I feel we all made the right choice.

Yep, and that's at the rear wheels. Figuring 15% loss through drivetrain, that's about 530HP at the motor.

What was killer though wasn't the HP, it was the torque. 496 ftlbs of torque at the rear wheels would leave any new Z06 in the wind. (if you could get it to hook up...lol)

It's funny. I guess ya'll are use to it so it's not a big deal. My daily driver for the last few years includes the majority of time being spent in a supercharged H2 with 38's on it. Everyone that gets in it immediately comments on how soft it rides but that's what I'm used to.

Driving the quality of the mini completely surpasses anything I could have ever expected in ride and quality.

No harm intended I noticed you were new to NAM so welcome aboard And you can't be all bad, you drove Miatas or is that Miati I drove a '97 Miata before MINIs came into my life
