Hey guys... just an FYI on the "MINI Maintenance Program Upgrade"

- it does not cover replacing the convertable top.

If you were thinking of replacing your top due to white marks and whatnot, do it before the original 3yr/36,000 miles agreement runs out.

I took my MCC to the dealer yesterday and picked up the upgrade. Before leaving, I ordered a replacement top and was planning on replacing the damaged one in the Spring before MoTD. My original agreement runs out 12/31/07. I'll have to call the dealer back to see if they will honor this arrangement.

The maintenance program is not an extended warranty. It's an extension of the included maintenance MINI provides for the first three years or 36,000 miles. My MA told me it DOES NOT cover the clutch but it does cover the brakes. So I totalled up what it would cost for two brake jobs, a bunch of oil changes and other scheduled maintenance and it was a no-brainer.

On the cabrio top, that is not a maintenance issue but rather a warranty issue. And the warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Did you dealer agree to replace your cabrio top because of wear marks? Mine has lots of wear marks and I have babied it. I only wash it with water and have cleaned it every six months with the MINI cleaner and water-proofing solution. It's only 18 months old.

If someone has an extended maintenance agreement that says the clutch is included, can you send me a copy?

After reviewing the original booklets, I realize now I misspoke. cabrio top replacement is covered under the 48/50,000 original limited warranty. thanks for pointing that out MINI_Bee

no . I have a few wear marks. that doesn't bother me a bit. unfortunately, one of the wear marks wore through the canvas and the rubber lining is showing now (left rear, by the window). That's why I'm getting a replacement. Since I have another year on the warranty, I can wait till spring to replace the roof

I did purchase the new agreement. I scanned the portion that lists what's covered and what's excluded here.

I know I'll need to replace the front rotors/pads next year anyways so I was going to get the original 48/50,000 upgrade. This new upgrade supercedes that one. hope this helps

Called two dealerships and both told me it didn't exist. Who do I need to talk to?

Clutch is included; it says so in the contract.
Did you cold call Jerry for confirmation or did you bluff your local dealer?

I called Jerry who said he could sell me the contract, but suggested I talk to my local dealer first. Having done this, I told the local dealer that another dealer was willing to do the $1395 price. That said, local dealer matched the price.

Excellent. How do think additional calls would be handled? Was he amiable?

Jerry was amiable and willing to sell us the maintenance at the discount price, but he preferred that we do it locally. If I'd not been able to talk my dealer into lowering the price, he would have sold me the contract. (He told me "talk to your dealer first, and if you can't work it out with them, give me a call back.")

I'd suggest that it's not really necessary to call him first ... just tell your dealer that you've found another dealer willing to sell to you at $1395. If they don't bite, and you want that price, THEN call Jerry and get it. As others have reported, you'll have to FedEx him your extra key (they need to read the mileage off the key to issue the contract).

I bought the 48/50000 extended maint. package when I took delivery, thinking the brake replacement coverage was a sweet deal. I'm now closing in on 50,000 miles and I'm only 50% thru my pads. So I paid $800.00 for an oil change. Unless you drive with your foot on the brake pedal, $1400 is a lot to pay for brake shoes and an some oil.

I just got quoted 1595 from habberstad on LI, i understood it to be *total* 6 years or *total* 100K miles - so only 3 yrs on top of the original 3.
I'll check this out, as i'm going back in for a busted top motor, as well as the price...

Just curious... when did your original 36 mos/36,000 miles agreement run out? In a old post, I noticed you took delivery Sept '04. I have a feeling you're being quoted the amount when the original 36/36,000 has run out.

...and yes, it extends the original agreement to a total of 72 mos/100,000 miles.

The Maintance extension can be reapplied to a vehicle already out of the 3yr, 36k. The cost is an extra 300 bucks. That extra 300 buck will allow the maintence program to be restarted and vaild up to 6yr/ 100k.

Indeed, i took delivery in sept 04 - but my service guy said that if i didn't buy it by january of 08, i would be charged *even more*. so it would seem i'm already at the low price.
I've got a tuesday afternoon date for my busted top motor, i'll ask them what the deal is and get back on it!

Either way, 1395 or 1595, for brakes and clutch, it seems like a no brainer. Also, he said that a mini-based extednded warranty plan will be coming out soon, before my warranty is up, in fact, and i will probably get that, so i can keep getting new window motors.
