Cabrio Top Warning?

I was closing the top on my cabrio last night and didn't want the windows closed. So, being dumb, I reached up to push the open button on the windows while the top/sunroof portion was closing. Inadvertently rested my fingers on the top of the windshield/roof and thought the sunroof was going to pancake my fingers. Luckly pulled them out of the way before any dammage was done. I don't think the sunroof has a very sensitive pressure switch on it. Anyone had their fingers gobbled up between the sunroof and windshield frame/roof?

Not yet - and if I do, I bet I only do it once.

It probably doesn't have any pressure switch at all, just like the windows.

If I have, or if I ever do, I won't be admitting it here

I already take a lot of grief for being a chick, and blonde....I don't need to give the male or brunette camps additonal material to work with

Actually my Cabrio did come with a warning sticker about this topic exactly. I ripped it off immediately. I've only had my fingers caught from time to time.

I had a much worse occurance with my Saab Aero. No warning sticker either. I lowered the car (hydraulic jack) while resting my figers on the top of the tire. It dropped, the fender traping my hand. I had to jack the car partway back up to remove my bruised hand.

Its all guardrails at the Grand Canyon to me. Way too hard to keep the foolish from coming to fruition.

OK... Now someone at NAM needs to sell a vendor account to a lawyer so they can start advertising for participants in a Class Action Suit against BMW for failure to protect our fingers from our brains, OOPS, I mean the convertible tops.

rc'S I just revisited this .... you would never have had any idea of what you started with me and my wife. Every time we close the top one of us warns the other, its like who can get there first.

We thank you so much for this.:thum bsup:

Okay. While we're warning. There should be a sticker on my XM which says to turn off "Beyond Jazz" before backing up when relying on the backup sensor!

My MINI replacement has the buttons on the center consul, by the gear shift. No more worries on the fingers.

Wow, thought I was the only stupid one. I have a loner mini from the dealer. I think it’s a 07 but not sure. It has the supercharged motor if that helps. Anyway today I had the top vented about 2”. I went to throw a piece of fuzz out the top and brushed my hand on the close button. Three of my fingers got caught and the more I moved them the more the top closed. I pulled over and shut off the car. I think the top still has power till the doors are opened. I stuck my other hand in between the top and roof. I pulled as hard as I could. Finally I was able to get my hand out 10 mins. Four of my fingers are pretty bruised. Thank god I was able to get them out. I didn’t want to: 1) crushing them more or 2) calling 911.
I’m going to wait to see if the swelling goes down. I hope there no damage!!
