Both my wife and I always seem to have trouble seeing the traffic light when we are "first" in line. I've attempted many seat changes and nothing aside from craning my neck helps. We have a 2k6 mcs, not that I think it matters... I'd appreciate any thoughts or whether this is part of the mini experience. Thanks.
That's just the way the MINI windshield is in a downtown-like redlight situation. There is a thingie that you can stick on your windshield that magnifies upward that will help you but I can't think of the name of it right now.
It's not a new problem, just has to do with the steeper angle of our windscreens. Cars in the 50/60's had little stop light minders on the front of the dash next to the W/S for this reason as well. As cars got more aero the w/s got more laid back which improved the vision. The new toyota FJ cruiser has this same problem-worse I've heard. I try not to pull right up to the line-just a little back and that helps.
Sounds good, I'm always leaning forward, just curious what the suns like magnified as your driving into the sunset?

I've never had a late day sun reflection problem with my light-in-sight, but then, my MINIs both have a tinted strip over the top of the windshield, too. Perhaps that DOES help some.
When first in line, I naturally watch the cross traffic lights for a hint of when they turn yellow. At that point, I'll switch to watching my light, which limits the amount of neck-craning that needs to be done.
Yep, it's a Mini thing. You guys think you have it bad... I have a 5-panel rearview mirror that stretches across 90% windshield. Having no blindspots in the rearview is worth my "craning" forward to see traffic lights. Hey, keeps us young, right?
Usually do the same.
Also allows you to rest your foot!
