My wife had a Jetta 1.8T, sorry to say, but it is faster-drag, it is quicker than the MCS, chip the thing and it is no contest.

But this isn't a drag racer so who the hell cares, otherwise you would have bought a mustang or something. Sometimes I even get stuck into looking at 0-60 times and 1/4 times and I don't own a drag car (Nissan 350Z, Honda Pilot, MCS).

This thread is nearly a year & a 1/2 old, for those that hadn't noticed. Anyway, I've kept pace for a 1/4 mile with my stock pullied 2004 MCS with a new MkV GTI. For comparison purposes only, of course. IMO, driver ability and reaction time will have a more pronounced effect on a straightline race than any significant difference between the cars themselves...

since you got the revised gearbox on the 05+ R53, i think you cant
loose.

on the pre-05 gearbox your destiny was determined when you engaged
the clutch in 1st from a standstill. there was no way to recover if you
under rev'ed and engaged due to the tall 1st gear.

I actually was on the "back straight" of a track and took an 08 GTI from 55 MPH and by the time we were in triple digits I was around 3-4 car lenghts ahead and pulling away. This is with Pulley, CAI, Headers, Cat-Back,Head, and a RMW Tune...

Yeah and all he needs is a REVO or APR ECU upgrade for $600 and you're toast.

Absolutely makes sense. Not sure what year your MCS is, but the mods you listed on a '05/'06 should make approx 200hp & 185 ft.lbs at the wheel in a car thats 2700lbs +/-. The GTI has a wide power band, but unless it's chipped it can't match the power and it weighs about 500lbs more. And I can't help but think about how many GTI's I've seen with big, heavy 18" wheels. Those things gotta weigh more than S-lights, which means I'm saving 10lbs a corner with my 15lb Rotas.

I've done worse to the old R32's... Damn are those things heavy and slow...It's a shame VW put's a VR6 and not a hopped up 1.8t with around 275hp... Now your talking about a Evo killer...They would have top do something about the handling issue though.(Can you say Lean to the left-Lean to the right)

With all those mods that is predictable/expectable

Sorry but if he has a MKV GTi with DSG, he'll win...if he has a 6 spd. you might have a chance if he mis-shifts or you're that much better then he is.

My wife's 03 MCS, is modded modestly with CAI, Exhaust, 15% pulley, 2% crank pulley, and only three stickers. My FJ Cruiser has the TRD CAI and exhaust and the 4.0 with at least nine stickers and she beats me all the time...looks like I need more stickers and badges.

Seriously though, throug my work I was sent to a few driving/off road/stunt/PSD/Rally/racing schools. Those schools made a big difference, especially if I were to get serious in the realm of AutoX. E-braking and lite foot braking big and small cars, big and heavy trucks into a 90 degree stop into a box takes some getting use to.

I was sent to tactical driving school through my work as well. With these skills, I am quiet impressed with how the MINI handles.
