Check this: I had a crease in my driver's seat that was not normal wear and after inspection, my dealer agreed that it was not normal and replaced the lower part of the seat. Thing is, the new seat is not as "tight" as the old one. Will it tighten up over time, or is this just how it is. It kinda looks like some aftermarket slip cover. Anyone else experience anything similar?
Here's the new seat:

And here's the passenger side:

I think you should say something to the dealer.

I've seen some really horrendous looking lapis blue seats, both passenger and driver sides all wrinkled looking. Your driver's side does look like it's worn down more than it should be for a new seat, and I can't see how it would tighten up over time. I think the opposite will happen, that it will look saggier, sorry to say

I think I will see what the dealer has to say, and have them take another look, when I go back to return the '03 745i key I found on the floor behind my passenger seat.

One of my heater coils burned through the back of my seat a while ago. The warranty coverred the coil and the cover. I noticed the same thing on mine. It took a few minutes to fix. I just started tugging the leather into place. When the dealer does it they really don't take enough time to properly fit it. Just work the leater by hand, it should smooth out. Also, yes, over time the wearin did happen and now my seats look alike.

My drivers side seat is getting really wrinkled and creased and I can see stiching almost comming apart! The dealer said it was normal wear and tear but I dont think it is, i might go to another dealer to see what they say. I paid a grand for what little leather is in the Mini and it looks like this already.

I hate to say it but, I think we are going to see continuing problems from our leather seats. I 've had my covers replaced by warranty, and the new ones are wearing quickly.I wish I could get the $1200 out of the seats. They just are not "all that". I wonder if the JCW seats are any better. The pictures sure look nice.

My driver's side panther black leather has a wrinkly spot about the size of my fist. I;'m not very happy with how the leather is holding up. I probably would have preferred the leatherette if I could do it over again.

Hey Yucca...I agree with you on the seats. Mine are Lapis and already have scuffed them in two spots. Something is not right with them but the service guy says that I must have done it to them. I have no idea how it happened and it looks like crap to me.

Even'n all,

I have lapis leather as well.
I had the seat portion of the drivers seat replaced @ the dealer and they did a great job. Both driver & passenger seats looked fine when the install was complete.
There are problems with some of the lapis seats due to poor quality leather. It's a situation that exists, although not universally present in all lapis leather seats. Your dealer will & must replace these faults..
wkndracr....
My opinion after viewing the pic of your leather seat replacement is that...you must go back and have it corrected. It will definately not get tighter with time, but will instead only loosen up with time. It does not look good and you should make sure you have it ...refitted.

Peace,
D

What I don't understand is why the front seat seat leather is always "tight" whereas the rear seat leather is always more "loose".

It seems as though the new cover is made a little differently, with more "layers" than the old one. Not all the layers are glued together, the whole thing is just glued to the seat cushion. Hopefully I can get an "old" style cover.
