Excellent driving music!

For those more "rural motorings" check out the album:

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós. I would describe them as a Radioheead meets Pink Floyd, but destroys them both in an Ambient competition.

They are Icelandic so a warning: They do not sing in english.

A brief rundown:

The singer plays a 69' Gibson Les Paul with an over-rosened cello bow. Sounds kind of like 100 violins at the same time. They usually play with a 5 piece string section and their music is PERFECTLY suited for motoring.

Please check them out and let me know if you find it as wonderful an experience as I do!

thank you, sigur is so good. im not sure its amazing driving music, but its amzing mood music. Much of their stuff is like the score of a movie to me so it brings this dramatic driving experience, but certainly doesnt give me an enticement to drive like some songs do

im not sure ive heard that specific song from sigur. short of itunes (which i prefer not to support unless necessary which ill prob break soon because of sigur) its pretty hard to fidn their cd's. i do have (), which is an awesome cd, untitled 3 and 4 being my favorites.

to bad theres no amazing road in florida (at least where i live), listening to sigur while driving through the red rock park in nevada would def be an emotional driving experience

Not from the album I mentioned, but good nonetheless.

Anything to help out a fellow motorist!

Check out "Staralfur"

It reminds me of my car when I hear it. It's like it's her song!

Any by the way, there are sites you can actually download live footage at high quality. My wife and I were lucky to catch them in Nashville at the Rhymar (?) Auditorium on Valentines Day last year.

They can change your religion! Absolutley beautiful music. And how all things can fall in place, everything they do reminds me of my car now. It's like she has chosen her own music.

Anytime! It's a joy to drive the car alone, Sigur Ros just enhances it to another level.

It was mind numbing! I believe that link I posted above also has tour dates on it somewhere. They only play theatres as far as I know so if there's on it your city there's a good chance you might catch them on the next showing. They released Takk in October so I wouldn't expect anything too soon, but you never know.

Barely noticible, but the song #4 is live. That is EXACTLY how they sond during a live perfirmance.

Honestly. When I saw them people were crying! (joyfully)

A rolling Stone editor described them as "Gods golden teardrops"

Fitting I think.

Motor on! Glad I could give you all this gift!

from my understanding untitled four on () is not live but studio recorded (from my understanding that is), but the version played in vanilla sky (which is not on the vanilla sky sound track but cna be found in lime wire) is live. having both they sound about the same except the piano solo is a lot less noticeable in the vanilla sky one, and at the end there is clapping, which def supports that that one is live

It's the same song, just remastered to pull out the crowd noise.

Sigur Ros is AWESOME! A friend of mine played me their song Hoppipolla and the hair on my arms stood on end. From then on I have listened to them everyday on the drive to school.

There music videos are impecable. Some weird topics but absolutly beautiful composition. Check em out.
Glosoli (awesome song, great video)

Absolutley BRILLIANT song! From the Takk album. It just does something to you. This was the 3rd song they played live at the show I saw in Nashville.

Just gorgeous.

Lets keep the posts coming,

ah, one of the greatest movies ever! that was also them when tom first woke up at the beginning of the movie, the song that kept repeating "it's you." cameron crowe was into radiohead when he made this movie. sigur ros is the next step up from them. i like their early stuff best as the later songs are more soundtrack style. some of their lyrics are a made-up language they invented themselves, actually the lead singer. i was lucky enough to see them live a couple of years ago, string section and all. they are very cool!

Yeah, the entire album () is in no known language whatsoever. Singer Jonsi made it all up as a method to use vocals as an actual instrument instead of a platform for expressing a particular story.

For anyone interested their discography is as follows:

Von (1997)
Agaetis Byrjun (2000)
(), Brackets, or Sigur Ros (2002)
Takk (2005)
Saeglopur (2006)

With a few singles inbetween each.

I only have Takk but will be picking up the newest album tomorrow and the brackets album as well.

Yay record exchange. Got to love free cd's (when trading in old ones.)
