But to your question, I wanted both oil pressure and temperature gauges, not post-meltdown lights. And even though the original Mini predates all other cars currently using a speedometer smack dab in the middle of the car, center speedos always seem to remind me of the Toyota Echo (one of the most atrociously styled cars of the last decade).
Besides, one car in the family fleet with a center speedometer (whole gauge cluster including tach, gas et al, as a matter of fact) is enough.

I was thinking the same thing the other day but was thinking it would be best to mount an hour meter under the bonnet to keep the interior from getting cluttered. It's not like I need to look at it everyday.

I forgot one other little detail. When I was test driving different cars, I was annoyed that without the Chrono pack you only get one turn signal light whether you have your left or right blinker on.
Clearly the Chrono pack is better if for no other reason than you get both a left AND right blinker light!

Q: Why did you get it? (The chrono package)
I have listed all possible answers as an aid, you just say the letter.
A.) Because I wanted to get ALL packages on my dear MINI.
B.) Because the big speedo is ugly.
C.) Because I dont want to look at the middle of the dash to see my speed!!!!

E.) Well my first MINI had it, so I wanted to get it on my next one because I really liked it from the first.

Interesting. Your Chrono pack displays the oil pressure in PSI? Mine is measured in BAR (metric).
And to add to the original discussion:
