I have a crack in my lower left hand corner that runs from the edge of the glass and extends about three inches to perfectly frame the mini logo. Does anyone else have a crack in this same location?

Got my first crack in the windshield of my 3 month old MC the other day. My wife thinks it was stone induced while motoring across the PA turnpike. It is on the passenger side and only about 6 mm wide. I think I will attempt to have it filled at this point and go for a replacement when there is more significant damage (bet I don't have to wait too long though!).

Of all the cars I have owned in the past I have never experienced this problem before and I am not happy about it.

Hamster, you bought your MINI from Don Rosen right? Let me know how they handled this problem since that's where I'm purchasing mine from.

Lower left. I think MINIDivision is a crazed crack addict who
occasionly stumbles into a keyboard and types nonsense.

Hi there,I'm the one who started this topic(this time around).Yes, this is exactly where the last two cracks have occured, both times with the car at rest, parked in my back yard. This is an update on my experience with this for all who are following my plight(latest replacement is #4 in 8 months)
in addition to all the info I have posted, these facts have emerged from my latest experience with this problem:
-mini's own process for replacement involves using "buttons"made of some kind of hard rubber placed INSIDE a ring of polyurethane, which are used to establish the height of the windshield from the body of the car. From what I can suss out ,there are 10 of these used, three on top and bottom, and two on each side.these "buttons" are of a much harder composition than the urethane and this IS relavent.
Gary King ,the service mgr. at Minipeabody in northern Ma.,for whom I have the utmost respect ,having talked with a whole bunch of people who know the business ,got Mini USA to agree to an experiment whereby the buttons in the corners were removed prior to installing the trim at the very end of the process.
-If nothing else, these facts have emerged :mini USA knows there is a problem, witness the fact that I am in possession of a document written in Feb of this year Called"Attachment S. I. M51 02 03 " called "MINI Windshields stress crack survey instructions".I would be more than willing to fax a copy of this document to any and all requesting same, include fax # and email me at metricvision1@hotmail .com.
-If we all stick together,we CAN make a difference

-Mini's own service rep has never installed a windshield and is CLUELESS!

BMW uses two suppliers for the glass in the Mini.Sekurit supplies the glass for the front windscreen, rear window, and the rear fixed windows.Splintex supplies the glass for the doors and the roof.Sekurit is a French company that's been making glass since the 1700's.Splintex is now part of a larger German company who has been making glass since the middle 1800's.BMW has been using these two companies for years to supply it's cars with glass.

Both companies have web sites.Sekurits is http://www.saint-gobain-sekurit.com.If BMW is no help to you, write or phone the company yourself.Talk to them about it.I'm sure they know about the problem, but fixing it won't be easy or cheap. It might not even be possible without a re-design of the windscreen.

Maybe this will help people get some answers.

Ok... so I was finally able to get an appontment (19May and no loaners available!)to have the windscreen replaced (along with some other trifling matters) and I'm just wondering... are they going to try and screw me out of a warranty replace? I'm actually fairly worried about this, as one of the reasons the appointment is so late is that they "have to get a guy to come look at that crack and make sure it wasn't a rock." I feel like they may employ a goon whose sole purpose is to confirm impact fractures in order to save MINIUSA a buck. I thought I'd read--here or on a similar thread--that someone had had a problem with this. Thoughts?

Arg.

PS. Thanks for the info holdenontoit and Oilman! Perhaps if we all band together and drive the supplier INSANE they will also put pressure on MINIUSA...

No they wouldn't do that, would they. I drive down, advisor says, "yup, that's where they're cracking" 4 hours later I get a call saying they've changed their minds and it's a rock chip that caused it. So the next day I waste another 3 hours plus to drive down and pick up my still cracked glass windshield.

I't not about the bucks I'll have to shell out for the replacement, Hell I've lost more then that in salary driving back and forth. It's WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE WHEN, not if, THE NEXT ONE BREAKS!

P.S. MINIDivision I'm still waiting for my email
