Broken tranny??

So I noticed something was wrong with my transmission a couple weeks ago. Everytime I would go WOT from 1st to 2nd(btw I have an 02 MC), it would grind into 2nd gear for a split second. Last night, I was heading home from my gf's house and it just kept slipping out of 2nd gear. I have to shift from 1st to 3rd now, my question is this the end of my tranny? Will I have to buy a new one?? Is there aftermarket trannies for the MC?

Don't know of any aftermarkets, but you could look into getting a rebuilt one. Or if you can find a good tranny shop, they may be able to rebuild yours.

A new tranny installed is probably worth about $3000.

Damn you got owned too this year huh? This is what I got to replace mine.

I'm scared of getting another Midlands, I'm out of warranty I hear in lots of cases people replacing they're tranny multiple times for the 02-04 models. This gearbox should hold.

Sorry to hear this happening... it's gonna be expensive...

Sounds like a worn out 2nd gear synchronizer. Not a big deal. I've replace many of them myself, but any competent manual transmission mechanic should be able to take it apart, replace the 2nd gear synch, check everything else inside such as bearings and broken gears and clean it out and lube it and put it back in for far less that a new or rebuilt tranny. Might want to consider replacing 1st and 3rd while you are in there, but 2nd gets the most abuse.

The Midland units are not that great for holding up IMO. The Gtrag units are better but I dont think you can install one in place of a Midland. Octane guy tried to have it done with his car when he owned the MC and had a problem.

Yeah, it sucks to be stuck with one:impatient. Fortunately, I love my Mini, and I like spending time with it, its reliabilty has been pretty mediocre but I just love driving it!!

I thought it would have something to do with the synchros, cause it goes in but slips out cause the clutch isn't spinning at the same speed as the flywheel cause the synchros isnt working??
