Hardcore: MINI as only car

Was washing the "Mini Support Vehicle", then reading through the "what shares your garage" thread... got me to thinking some congratulations and admiration is in order:

Hats off to those who have the Mini as their sole mode of transportation. We hereby designate you "Hard Core Mini Fans", and bestow upon you the honour if... well... driving a Mini everywhere you go. Mini Knighthood, perhaps.

Wish I'd taken a pic, but I took my Mini to Lowes the other day... (6) 8' boards, some plywood and 10' drainpipes for a home repair... roofrcks are great... so are people looking at me saying "How's he gonna do that?"... got me to admiring what folks go through to live with these tiny cars routinely.

So: Kudos to the hard core owners!

I guess I’m one of those because I’ve been driving my 02 MCS since August 02 as my sole means of transportation.

I guess we qualify since we sold the Subaru and have a pair of Cooper S's

this thread is timely....I have an 8x6 vinyl shed being delivered today. I need some 8 ft 2x4's. Wish I had a roof rack right about now.....

Well technically the MINI is not my only car, although it was for a while. Now I also have a Mini for those small trips.

Cube17576 that's funny - and a great pic in your sig!

Patagonian: If'n you're careful, you can get a couple 8 footers in there from the driver's back corner to the passenger footwell. I wrapped mine with a towel to avoid undue battering of the interior. Another option is leaving them sticking out the hatch and listening to that melodious exhaust note - with the windows open or vents on, of course, since that does draw exhaust into the car. Actually, it's better vents on and windows shut, seemed to draw less into the car.

Flannel: You're picking one of few cars with LESS room than a Mini!

There's lots of room in our garage. For the moment, our MCS is all my wife and I need

Yeah, we get odd looks at Sam' Club all the time Especially when they see the cases of water/Gatorade. You'd think folks had never heard of folding rear seats

Well, having the Mini as my/our only car would technically be possible (I work nights and my wife works days and we could share one car if we had to), it isn't really feasible, especially when we want to take out two kids and our Saint Bernard somewhere (that's when we break out our family wagon.....a Ford Freestyle). If I was single I suppose I could make it work, but even when I was single I usually owned two or three different vehicles as one vehicle couldn't do it all. FWIW we put more mileage on the Mini Cooper than our other three vehicles combined.

I guess we qualify, since selling the M Coupe several months ago we have only one car and its the MCS

(I guess having only one car for two people plus a moto makes us super hardcore huh :D)

not quite hard core

I hold on to my previous vehicle ('96' GMC half ton) for those Home Depot runs and run the MINI as my daily driver. The fender shows up in the backround of my picture.

I'm hardcore as well. I've had a 2002 and 2005 MINI S and both have been by only car. The MINI is one versatile car!

We where completely hardcore until just recently. From June of 05 when we got back state side all we had was our 05 MCS, even after our son was born in Sept. This is all we had to use for everything to include Sam's club trips, the grocery store, family trips and everything. It is classic seeing people's reaction when you close the boot after loading a shopping cart full of groceries plus a carseat/carrier for a baby, and two adults.

My mother unfortunately dumped her old 99 mini-van on his when she got something new, but it just sits there except to get me to work. Any other time we still use the MCS.
