R50/53 buying mini- need advice automatic or stick?
For myself, it's definitely "make mine manual". However, each driver needs to come to grips with their style of driving and driving conditions. It sounds like the CVT will fit the bill for you. Remember, when you do your test drives to do them under similar conditions that your real driving will be. The sales guy I dealt with took me out on a really nice little twisty backroad for our test. It was fun, but it, in no way, told me what would happen in short hop, stop and go situations. In my case, that was no problem, as I've owned plenty of manuals in the past and already knew what to expect. To someone unfamiliar with a manual though, it may have been a disillusionment as to what they were getting into. A manual is more fun, but it is more work, too. Take your time, do your test drives, and get the one you want. The car is going to fun either way.
Plus, there are times that I do need to do something else while driving (change a CD, find my chapstick, get money out for the tolls, etc.) and the CVT makes this so easy.

>>I like my CVT. Based on the traffic I have to deal with daily (DC rush hour...NO FUN!! NO FUN!!!!!!) I am thrilled with it. Especially on Friday when I got over the bridge into Virgina and it took me an hour and a half to go 5 miles. I have never been so glad to have that CVT in all my life.
L.Mini,
LOL! We're neighbors!! I know the joy of crossing the bridge! Fortunately I don't have to do it daily. But if I want to go sight or "teeking" (my slang for going from antique store to antique store) in MD, well... I know the thrill of making it across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Actually, the Woodrow Wilson bridge gives the same thrill. Try it you'll hate it just as much.
Unless you live here, no one understands our traffic mess.:???:
YES, love the CVT! Nothing like it in horrendous traffic. On the open road you're not shifting that much anyway so.... I'd kiss the man who invented that CVT!:P
I wonder if there are studies which prove people who drive manuals later in life get more arthritis in their knees and elbows from all that repetitive stress motion?
