Happy T-giving to me.

On my way to my Aunt's today, following my mom, she kicked up a rock and smack, straight into my windshield... half inch crack. The same freaking thing happened to my old one, I'm so sick of the crappy windshields MINI uses.

This is also going to delay my move back out to California since I was going to leave tomorrow but I want to get this filled before I drive 3,000 miles so it doesn't spread. Not even massive amounts of food could salvage my day.

Oh, that is frustrating. I only have had one windshield crack...it happened when a truck in opposing traffic kicked up a rock and I (coming the other way) just happened into it. Does put a damper on one's day.

That bites :( I just had my windshield replaced last week, with some 3500 miles on the car. I'm sort of annoyed with the quality of the glass myself.

Bad day indeed, but better the windshield than bonnet....

Are the windshields that bad or is it just incredible bad luck? How much are the new windshields?

Thanks,
k

amg...

Sorry to hear about the rock incident. That is definitely a downer.

I have heard impacts on my windscreen but so far no cracks. My bad luck is that every little grain of sand that hits my bonnet has removed specks of CR paint.... I already did one touch-up cycle and there are new paint chips awaiting attention a month later.

My biggest regret with the car is not doing the clear bra.... (I suppose you can't bra your windscreen ??)

Yeah those chips in the bonnet are a real downer... So far my windshield has been spared... a few minor chips but no cracks. ~38,000 miles.

Well awhile back I had a rock come flying into my bonnet and bouncing into my window. It left a nice little hole but no crack.

A bit of both, plus since the MINIs windshield is relatively upright, it tends to get direct hits rather than glancing blows.

Unfortunately a fact of MINI life.

It can be helped a bit though by replacing the MINI windshield with a good aftermarket one!

I asked my clear bra guy if it's possible to do the windshield...he said not yet, but that they are working on something. I really hope that's true, because $300 every 3000 miles is not really something I'm looking forward to...

Sorry to hear about your Thanksgiving surprise! I got a chip on both my windshield and bonnet the first week of ownership - I think from the same rock! Definetly sucks but unless you want to get rid of your MINI or lock it up in a garage, there isn't much you can do to avoid it.

Just got one yesterday as well. I have my MCS for less than a month.
Some tiny rock flew from nowhere, hit the windshield right under the wiper. Start with a small chip, then five minute after that, 8 inches cracked.

I don't think MINI uses crappy windshields... They tend to crack more often because of the upright position...

I cracked one 2 years ago. I know how you feel. :(

That's too bad. Unfortunately, it's a pretty big fact of life. Out here in the wild, wild west we use CINDER on the roads in the winter and it sticks around until at least May. So, needless to say, I'm expecting some carnage this winter. At least I have the massive clear bra, he even did the roof where it bends down a bit in the front. The entire front of the car is covered in plastic. Must protect my baby.

call the waaaambulance ;)

If it makes you feel any better I've put no less than four windsheilds in my Titan. You think being so huge it would be safe but I think it's windsheild is direct trajectory of all flinging rocks.

I have had rocks the size of a wallnut hit my window and barely nick it and then turn around and have one the size of a pea smack it and crack it all the way across. Maybe it has more to do with the air temp and less to do with the quality of the glass.

Hey G! Look at me I'm posting on the Mini forum just for you.
