I have a MINI :) after several years
Hi to all
.
I kept telling my wife I could get by with an older cooper she kept saying try the S. (good thing for the better half)
Well after watching Mini's for 2-3 years I finally found one that we could afford and feel good about.
I was standing infront of the Mini when the salesman at Carmax was checking lights, wipers & etc... I felt something shoot me in the leg I said hey what are you doing
and to my amazement the chrome bezel around the front headlights pops up & sprays water. "SWEET"
(It only took 1.5 hours to complete the transaction) The salesman also tells me thanks for buying from me as your credit is great you could of bought this car anywhere...good thing for paying the "ol bills" on time
I will post pictures soon as the (better half) is not sure where she last left the digital camera
.
Here is what my wife is already saying I will take the Mini...my daughter also I will go with mom.
2003 S under 40K miles
metallic gray, black top, dual pane sunroof, leather seats, heated seats, 17'' s lites, automatic a/c, fog lights, DSC... so now I have to figure out what packages it has...
Also what is the trick for shifting into reverse?
I am ready to MOTOR

Welcome to NAMFrom your description of that thing hitting you in the leg, you have Xenon headlights.
I dunno what packages you have (the original owner might have bought some items a la carte) but from the items you list it sounds like you may have the Premium Package, Sport Package, & Cold Weather Package.
I dunno a trick for shifting into reverse. Just go way left & up.
Now get to bed so you can get up early & go motoring tomorrow
Congrats and welcome!
You definitely have:
Premium- Sunroof, Auto A/C, MFSW
Sport - DSC, Slites, fogs, xenons, bonnet stripes
Cold Weather - heated seats, mirrors, washer nozzles
(and the color is 'Dark Silver' vs. the lighter 'Pure Silver')
For reverse, it's a serious
tug to the left, then forward.

I have heard that some folks have to slam it to the left pretty hard to get it in reverse.
Glad to welcome you to the MINI community. Hope you enjoy your baby as much as I enjoy mine.

Cool! Now go join your local club (Sin City MINIs?) and have some fun!
Yeah, the 6-spd takes a little getting used to. You will probably fumble it and stall it a couple of times (don't ask how I know this), but once you get the hang of the pattern you are going to love it.
Hope to see you in Vegas for AMVIV next year!

Boy for MINI owners there's lots of suspect suggestions for getting into reverse. While it may take a while you'll be able to tell when it is not fully engaged in reverse and when it's not you shift into another gear and just let off the clutch partially and shift back into reverse and you'll feel it go all the way into gear. This may seem time consuming, but in reality only takes a second and works every single time. If you follow some of the advice given (just slam it into reverse) you will do your gearbox some damage and the advice is just plain foolish. Have fun!
