R50/53 So I drove the Dragon!
So I drove the Dragon!
Hello everyone. I wanted to thank you for your advice about the Dragon. It was awesome!!!! On Wednesday I met my friends Andrew and Kevin to go drive. It was raining, but we opted to drive it anyway. It was scary as hell, it was wet, and it was foggy. I think most of my thought processes went something like this: "OMG we're flying, and that's a tight corner, with a lot of wet leaves, and holy s*** that's the edge of the mountain." It was scary, but man was it awesome. The guys decided to stay the night so they could try it again in the morning.
I left Thursday, with full intentions on going straight home. But the sun came out, and it turned into a gorgeous day. Considering the last two days had been wet and generally disgusting, I couldn't pass up the chance to run the Dragon again. I mean it wasn't that out of the way. About 15 min out of Knoxville, Andrew called and asked me to wait for them, so we could all drive it together. I'm so glad I decided to do it again. It was gorgeous. The road itself was probably safer the day before, because now it was partly dry, with some wet leafy places. We drove it once, and decided to head down a different scenic highway to Robinsonville to get some lunch at Sweetwater. After lunch, they went west to Atlanta and the Cherohala Skyway, I went east to head home.
It was seriously SO COOL!!!! I was terrified out of my mind pretty much the entire time, but it was all worth it.

Here are the all the pictures. But I'll attach a few here as well.
There's also video on youtube.
Here's my friend Kevin chasing me in his BMW.
This is me following the guys out of Deal's Gap, in the wet, on Wednesday.
Don't mind my hand posititions here. I know i have a lot to work on, and I was a bit distracted by you know, the edge of the mountain.
Thanks again for all your help! Hopefully I'll make it up to MOTD7.

I congratulate you on staying on your side of the road.
Looks like you had a load of fun. I enjoyed the video very much. I was down there in October & I actually liked the rain & leaves on the road. Not a motorcycle to be seen & hardly any traffic of any kind.

Now you know why we were warning you to be careful...kinda like a rollercoaster ride, right? Glad you had a sunny day as well....
