Seat Heater question?

Has anyone else had their seat heater turn off, on it's own, at random times?

I can't say mine has ever turned off on it own. And actually the low setting does do a nice job of "toasting" versus the high which feel more like broil.

It may have an automatic shut-off once it reaches a certain temp(?)

Nope. Sure you're not hitting it accidentally? Not much of a detent on them... Otherwise, sounds like a trip to the dealer.

does the lights go off?
on my bmw the two button old"burn your butt off seats"
works the same way as these ones do, highest setting goes up to a certain temp the go off for a while and to the lower setting untill you change the setting or turn off then on again. this is what you might be experiencing.
The are regulated with a sensor for heat and so they do not catch your bottom on fire...lol

I remember in my BMW, if the seat heater is set to high, it will eventually go to low after a set period of time. Then eventually it will turn itself off.

I don't know about the MINI, but I think mine has turned itself down or off once or twice.

I've never had the Mini seat heater turn themselves off in either MCS we've owned - I don't know if that info would be in the manual, but I don't think they are supposed to.

And for those whose heaters are too hot (or not hot enough) there are TSBs to fix that (found in this thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ght=hot+seat):

61-10-0-152-025 is to reduce the heat
61-10-0-152-026 is to increase the heat.

I have accidentally turned mine on or off a few times. Usually it's because I've placed my purse or some other object on top of the control button.

It's pretty disconcerting when your bum slowly heats up as you're driving. At a certain temperature threshold, you suddenly say "Hey what's going on here with my bottom!?"

Had the car since Feb of '05, never had this problem.

No I am not bumping it to turn it off. Not a temp threshold thing, as this morning in the driveway I turned it on, high, both lights, then within 3 minutes it turned off. I turned it back on and it stayed on for almost 10 minutes while driving to work, then turned off by itself again.

I turned the passenger seat heater on at the same time in the driveway, and it stayed on the whole 45 minutes to work.

The manual says nothing about them turning off. I RTFM before asking dumb questions.

I don't think is supposed to turn off on its own, sounds like you have an issue with yours so take it to Mini see if they can fix it.

As for the seats getting to hot, yeah if I had both light on in the control I fry my behind so I just put it on one light and then when I feel it warm I just turn it off.

if its the light, then its shuting itself off, if its not the light but you can feel it getting cold and not heating up you need the TSB for more heat that will replace the wires(broken circuit):
Part numbers:
61-10-0-152-025 is to reduce the heat
61-10-0-152-026 is to increase the heat.

I have a similar situation on mine (Jul '05). There appears to be something wrong with the wiring in the seat. When I shift position it will turn off.

If you hit a bump or accelerated where your seating position changed then you might be experiencing the same thing.
