Washer Jets

Okay I dont get this the washer jets for my front window are out of control. I was in traffic and deicided to wash my window. So when i turned the jet on it sprayed clear over my roof and hit the hood of the car behind me not joke. Not to mention it gave me a shower since my sunroof was open. Anyone know why its doing this? It would be nice to have it hit the window.

the jets need to be adjusted.

its a simple adjustment using a pin or needle and a good eye.

They're supposed to be aimed like that, the purpose isn't to clean the windshield but to ward off tailgaters!!!

BMW makes a special tool (that is described as a paper clip, but it has aBMW part/tool # attached to it), many use a paper clip, I use the tip of a pocket knife, I can usually get it after 2-3 trys, I bump them while washing the car everyonce and a while.

(Since your question seems to be answered, would you mind if I posted mine? It is related to the windshield washers!!)

I drained my washer fluid a few months ago because I still had the original from the dealer and I found this white stuff seeping out from the jets and staining the paint and it looked like it was eating away at the top coat of the paint.

So after reading a few threads, I drained it and everything was fine and then recently the light keeps flashing telling me it's empty even when the resevoir is full to the top. When I try to wash the windshield, it works so there's no problem with that... I'm kind of getting used to the flashing as soon as I start the engine but I'm just worried that it's a signal that something's not right...?

Not sure about your light however MINI does have a campaign to stop the wiper fluid leak there is a service bulletin out to put a part in to prevent leaking. I'd get a service appointment and ask about the light while you're there.

you realize you have 2 tanks, don't you? One of each side of the engine compartment. Did you check them both?

Haha yeah! My natural hair colour is brown afterall

I also don't think it's a leak because the fluid is the same level as when I put it in (well minus the part that I know I used, lol) but it's not a dramatic change.

Did you leave either of the tanks empty after you drained them?

If you did, im thinking the float inside the tank that gives you your fluid level may just be stuck from being dry.

These car do wierd stuff.

My car, for some odd reason, decided one day it didnt want to make the squirters squirt anymore.

For some reason, and I have absolutely no idea why, the wiper squirters are controlled the the Body Controller computer. Since I dont have a BMW scan tool, all I can check is that i'm getting power to the relay, which it is, then the power goes in one side of the BC1 and not out the other!

So, i carry around an aerosol can of windshield cleaner so i can spray it out the window to get rid of any salt spray on the windshield.

Ok here's the scenario: In the middle of summer a couple months after picking up my new MINI I noticed a bunch of white stuff around the washer jets on the hood and also the emblem on the boot. I read that it was "cosmoline" or something that is put in the car during shipping and someone recommended squirting water from a hose into the washer jets to get everything out and then keep washing the window to drain that and then fill it up with washer fluid. I know it did get pretty low so maybe the float thing is messed up.

How do I fix it?

I have a calculus midterm tomorrow ("today" actually!!) and I am drinking some "lost" energy drink. Keeping me up but NAM and MINI2 is distracting me like always

EDIT: What? 4 hours drive to school?! Don't tell me that's your daily commute! Even with a MINI that's extreme!

It's the yellow end to the washer stalk and it flashes for 30 sec or so when you turn on the engine and one of your washer resevoirs are low/empty. Fantastic innovation! Here I found a picture online:

It's a great feature and I hate that I buggered it up....! Must. Fix.!

Ok, I would suggest finding out if it even has a float, or if its some sort of digital level indiactor. I assume it has a float, just because its a simpler setup (Not that BMW likes making things simple).

I would just pull out the level indicator and spray it down with some PB or WD40 to loosen it up, if thats even the cause.

Either that or the computer has some beef with you. Have you irritated the computer lately that would have provoked this? Do not stare directly at the computer, do not say things behind the computers back......

It's red on the left side if you have an alarm system installed and I'm 98% certain that all MINIs have the washer resevoir light... Mine is an 06 so it should be the same as yours. I didn't even notice I had it until it started flashing in the dark and I thought it was my tire pressure monitor and I freaked out... yeah! haha.

Not everyone has two. Mine only has one because the other one is for those with headlamp cleaning wipers and I don't have those.
