MC JCW Sound Kit question...,,

The air intake flap often discussed by MCS JCW enthusiasts, is that present on the JCW sound-package for the base Mini as well? I have the sound-kit installed on my 2006 MC and was lead to believe that it did something at 4500 rpm like that, --or am I mistaken and the air-flap thing is only on JCW for the MCS?? Of course the car (2006 MC) sounds more and more agressive as the RPMs increase, and so I'm not sure if there is a flap that opens up in the air intake or not that contributes to sound as I pass 4500.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

This is the first time I've read anything about an intake flap in the Sound Kit, and the installation instructions don't indicate anything that might be controlled by rpm. With the JCW intake for the MCS, reviewers have commented on a fairly dramatic change as the intake opens at 4500 rpm. I don't notice this on my Sound Kit. It has a "sound pipe" that brings sound from the intake to the passenger compartment and also functions as an extra air inlet. There is a steady increase in volume as rpm increases, and the intake gets loud enough to sound aggressive from about 4000 rpm.

The JCW SK does not have a flap that is controlled like the MCS JCW airbox.
There is a filter at the firewall that is connected to the main airbox - the extra intake noise is noticeable due to the proximity of the cowl to the base of the windshield and as the revs build the rush of intake air is more apparent.
As long as it's music to your ears it really doesn't matter how it happens.
The Sound Kit is on next year's maybe to-do list, pending drives of the R56 Cooper.

Just had the JCW Sound Kit installed last week and I'm lovin' it. The kit came with a certificate of authenticity and at the bottom is this technical tip:

"For acess to the fuse box, first remove the seal from the bulkhead partition, then lift up and rotate the sound tube."

What does that mean?

did you get it on an MCS or MC? I have a MCS, but most people that write their opinion on the sound kit have a MC... or at least thats what I've noticed

The fuse box is between the battery and the shock tower, and normally it is directly accessible. The Sound Kit adds a sound tube between the intake and the cowl, and it covers the fuse box. You have to rotate the sound tube out of the way to access the fuse box. I know this from retrofitting front fog lights, which required opening the fuse box.

everytimeidie027, the Sound Kit is available only for MC.
