What's the most MEMORABLE thing you've heard someone say about your MINI?

We already have the "dumbest thing ever heard" thread, how about the most memorable thing you have heard said?

I owned my 2006 MS for almost a month without Andrew, my 5 year-old son knowing about it. I rented a garage to keep it in so he wouldn't see it, and on days when he was with me I continued to drive the old 1998 Regal. I was waiting for a decision from the courts on custody of him before letting him see the Mini Cooper. I was pretty sure I was going to win (and big) or I wouldn't have bought the car. (I've been divorced from his rage-aholic mother for about 4 years and making child-support payments out the wahzoo).

After a year long legal battle, I was finally granted full legal custody and the vast majority of physical custody. The day I received the verdict, I arrived to pick him up at the rich-kid school where his mom has him enrolled. He saw the MC for the first time from the doorway of the school and at first didn't believe the curb attendant when he motioned to him that his ride had arrived (like I said, rich kid school).

He ran to the car with eyes the size of saucers and when the door was opened he looked inside, saw his dad and his first words were "Wow!! DAD!! This is yours?!? This is your car!?? Oh My gosh, what will mom say?!?"

Well, your not going to like this if your into "modding"
From the appraissers (multiple) ... (summarized):

"All those modifications aren't worth anything, they make the car harder to resell ... The "uniqueness" of a numbered car makes it harder to sell as there's a limited market"

First off I'm known as a follower If the car in front of me is going too fast in a 65 I'll follow if we get passed I'll follow the car that passed me. Well one day while I was traveling to Chicago from St. Louis I was behind another MINI doing a little over the speed limit in a 65 zone, well a Older Vette passed us doing about alot more so I followed him, when he saw that a MINI was behind him he gassed it so I dropped down into to 4th and kept-up to until we were doing alot We had to slow down due to traffic, at the next exit I was getting off to get some lunch the vette got off the same exit and pulled next to me he said and I quote "I've been looking at those MINI's but I'm definitely buying one now"
I guess he didn't know how fast they really were.

I was in an accident in December and the last thing I wanted was to be forced into having the extensive damage repaired. The body shop called to tell me, "State Farm has totalled your Mini."

True, and that is why i will repeat what a cashier at the drive-thru once said about the Union Jack on my roof:

"I really love that Reebok logo on top of your car!"

Needless to say, the UJ was removed very soon afterwards. . . .

wow. thats lousy. I get austin powers comments, which have been the most memorable.
On one occurance, I pulled in a drive-thru and the guy didnt say one word, he just whistled the tune fron Austin Powers.
The other day another guy said, 'wow, thats so shagadelic!"

Elderly gent and his bride approached to ask about my MINI and wanted to know if it was an import.

He then ask,” How did I get it to the US" which I responded, "I had to check it as they would not let me carry it on".

I'm with kryiian, it wasn't what was said, but who said it that made it memorable. Two hotties in a pickup waving and yelling "nice car!"

My favorite thing that has been said about my MINI was when my friend compared it to my dog Aengus (aka Bubba). He said, "Your MINI is the automotive equivalent of Bubz. Stubby nose, big eyes, black and white... it's him!" Now he calls my MINI "Bubz Ride".

Actually, there may be some truth to that down the road. I can easily see my 2006 being seen 30 years from now and the comment made "Unbelievable! A totally virgin Mini Cooper!" I know, crazy as it sounds, there may well be value associated with it remaining totally factory (including JCW options).

i edited your post (all edits in bold) in the quote. the NAM guidelines state no talk of excessive speeding, you should edit your original post.

So my wife suggested I get a MINI cabrio to replace my rapidly degrading 8 year old Sebring. I obsessed about ordering for over a month (spending many hours in the online configurator and reading every review in existence), then finally went and ordered one, then, much to my wonderful wife's chagrin, obsessed over it incessantly while waiting for nearly 12 weeks to get it. Spending hours on NAM, filling up the garage with parts and detailing crap, and generally making a REALLY big deal out of it. Finally I go pick it up, drive it home and park it in the garage. Wife at this point had never driven or ridden in a MINI - I was seriously out on a limb here, since we do technically live in a community property state and we do share our vehicles...:impatient

So I'm beaming from ear to ear over my new baby as my wife walks out into the garage and, without missing a beat, says "Where's the rest of it?"

I deserved that...
BTW, she's driving it and I think she likes it.

My 5 year old grand-daughter asked me if it was a real car. She wanted to know why I call it "Miss Ruby" and so I told her that she names her toys so why can't I. She has since re-named the car "Checkers."

Yep.

Rogue Eyes + Little Kids = Guaranteed Fun
my boys love mine - think it makes the car look "evil" - which to them is a good thing...

ROTF, that was great!

Mine had to come while I was working in the UK this week. My wife called last night (she was driving Silver Bean), said that she and my youngest son were going thru a drive thru window when the teller took interest. She said, really cool car mind if come outside and look at it? My wife said no problem, she did and brought two co-workers while the drive thru line was backing up. Just too cool!

Easily the best for me: A friend, who owns an Infiniti G35 Coupe, said he was afraid to race (at the Ring, of course), and he said, with all seriousness, he was scared of losing, and didn't want me to have bragging rights for beating his 40k auto.
I gave him ride after that and he said he is now looking at trading his in for a GP. What a car, that MINI.

Second: Getting gas the other day and a mother and her 3 kids come out as I open the tank. "OOOHHHH, a MINI Cooper. What a cool car, Mister. Look at the MINI Cooper. I love those." on and on until the mother ushered them to their own boring car. Kids are great.

On Halloween, my daughter and I took the MINI while she went treak-or-treating.

We had been near a group of kids and parents for a while. They kept looking over at the car. Finally, one of the parents runs across the street to us and says, with a big grin on his face: "Wow, that's a great costume. You're disguised as a car!"

I had a cute old British couple tell me that they had their first date in a (then new) 1960 Morris Mini. It was touching to see how nostalgic and very much still in love they were.
