R50/53 What's the most MEMORABLE thing you've heard someone say about your MINI?
I pulled out of my old high school's parking lot after a football game, followed by a Ford F.450... no mistake 450, 4x4 off road... he was next to me at the red light, we were pretty close and to look at him I sat up a little higher and talked through the sunroof, I said, Nice truck, he said "I was about to say the same about your car."
There used to be a local car meet with about 8 GTOs, my friend has one, so i decided to bring my MINI. after a while, I popped the hood, and they saw the eyes. Everyone was going crazy about them. I parked the MINI facing the guy that was making most of the jokes about it, and he was like. "man, it's like it's staring me down"
I saw an F.250 with (I think he said 52" tires) and decided to pull over for a pic (the blue truck in my gallery) when I pulled into the shop's parking lot, a guy came out and asked If he could help me, I asked to take a pic w/ my car he said "I'm gunna take one too"
Oh, and the inevitable "Is that your speedometer?"
Most of the time, it's what people don't say
Almost every kid I see looks at the car with a HUGE smile and waves
one time, at a red light, beside a Ford Expedition with a bunch of kids in the back. I heard knocking and start looking around. I notice 3 kids with their faces in the window looking at the MINI giving me a thumbs up and waving
on a fun-drive (about 12 MINIs) we were going through a an old neighborhood and the ppl who were outside started to stop what they were doing to wave and watch us pass by

"What the f*** do you got in that thing?!"
After I'd raced (and beaten) a 300zx TT from a 20 roll.
Two Kids:
"I love that car!"
"I like the colour!"
With my keys in hand; "You the guy that drives the Mini?" says a woman living in my apartment complex. (I like my reply a bit better.)
"No, but if you see him, don't tell him you saw me, kay?" as I exit the elevator, looking both ways and running to the Mini.

Went on a run with the local 240's and afterward one of the guys pulled up next to me at the light and said "That **** is fast!" I guess they weren't expecting my stock car to keep up.
Also had a lady at the local Dairy Queen ask me all sorts of questions like "What's your car called?" and commented "Never heard of 'em!"

back to the topic.. haha
My favorite came from an elderly lady about a month after I bought Gromit.
I had gone to the pharmacy and as I was going in, I held the door for an elderly lady as she left the store. She was moving very slowly with a walker. I get my items and pay for them (which took several minutes). As I walk out the door I see the same lady very slowly walking circles around Gromit with a HUGE grin on her face. I walked up and she started asking a bunch of questions about the car and saying how much she liked it. We talked for several minutes and she said "If I were younger I'd have one of those cars!" and turned and walked away with one of the biggest smiles I've seen in a long time.
MINI Chili, your story about talking to the guy through the sunroof reminded me of a similar event. A couple of times a year certain charity organizations in our town do "road blocks" where they have people stand at intersections and collect donations. I had the windows down and cabrio top in the open sunroof position as we pulled up. The guy at our intersection was one of the tallest men in town. I gave a donation and in return they hand out a piece of candy. The guy laughs and said "This is the kind of car I love!" and handed me the candy through the sunroof.

This is another one where it wasn't so much what was SAID...
I'm recently retired after 20 years in the US military. I retired to the Hawaiian islands where my family lives on one island and I live and work on another with regular commutes back "home."
My wife originally said I should get a motorcycle to get better gas mileage. So I spent a couple of hours looking online at dealerships that had the one I wanted, the Suzuki Boulevard (carpal tunnel makes "crotch rockets" hard to ride). Well, two days before I'm to fly into Honolulu, she tosses a classifieds section at me and says she circled some apartments and rides she wants to look at. I look through the apartments and make appointments via phone to look at them.
Afterwards I started looking at the motorcycle ads but didn't see any circled. When I asked, she said keep looking through the classifieds. When I came to the "rides" she had circles around only the Mini's! "Tweedi" was the first circled, the first car viewing appointment, and the first thing I bought after I flew into Honolulu. Could have gone with the Boulevard but I'm glad I didn't.
The other night I was just tooling around trying to relax the mind to get some sleep and I came up to a guy on a Boulevard of all things. He spent more time staring at my Mini than I did his motorcycle. Made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.... of course it COULD have been the "Tweety" theme the previous owner started but who cares. I loved it.

I am 6'2" and about 220 lbs. As I exited my MINI in a parking lot one day, a guy says to me, You fit in that thing?
The other day I pulled up next to a guy in a Smart Car. He looked over at me and I smiled and said, I thought my car was small. He laughed and said that his car was 40" shorter than mine but that mine was a whole lot more fun to drive. He said that he gave his MINI to his daughter when he got the Smart Car.

Our friend is 6'4" and almost 300 lbs... he wears a shirt that says "I ate the other clowns."
That is funny! I would like to find one of those for a buddy of mine. He is 5' 19" and weighs about 3 bills.
When he and my other friend Dave come out for the Long Beach Grand Prix, Tommmy sits in the front seat, quite comfortably, and Dave sits crossways in the back. People who have seen the 3 of us climbing out of COOOOOP are always shocked!
