H8 the stock cupholder

I hate that thing with a passion, took it off within 2 days of having my MCS, easily comes off with the proper size torx bit and some light tugging cuz its got double stick tape on it...

Perhaps yours is different?

this is the one I had
http://outmotoring.com/mini_cooper_cup_holder.html

When i removed my factory cupholder i reused the 2 torx screws/bolts, just screwed them back into the two holes in the pillar.

Although, if i remember correctly, for some reason it was a P.I.T.A. to get that top screw/bolt threaded in correctly...

Could u take some pics to show ur cupholder and how its mounted?

The cupholder uses holes that were already there. Unscrew it and take it off if you hate it.

The downtube is the same regardless of wether the cup holder is installed or not. I unscrewed it and used some dental floss to cut through the foam tape then cleaned it up. Can't even tell it was there.

I'd classify my experience as a hate/like relationship. I hate the way the thing looks, but it is nice to have someplace to put my coffee. Believe me, I boycotted Starbucks for the first 4 months just to prove a point (and also becuase I was subsidizing the $3 premium with the savings), but old habits die hard. Coffee cups just don't fit in the two front holders, and the one behind the e-brake isn't in a good spot.

I H8 the cupholder on the pillar! I also h8 that I now only drink tall (grande fits too but it's hell to get it out!) Starbucks' drinks or SF Red Bulls! (caffeine is my friend)

Had it uninstalled at the dealer upon delivery because I thought it looked so out of place and silly.

Generally speaking I shouldn't have a hot drink in the MINI anyway since they don't like cornering at the speedlimit.

I actually don't mind the way it looks, but i hate how it's so big and awkward... Oh well, at least I use it so it stays.

I don't like the cupholder either... However it is usefull from time to time... If you try, you can remove the metal part and leave the bracket attached... thus letting you take it out and put it in at random... without tools. Simply pull (hard) up on the top piece, it will pop out of the hole, then push down and it's out! The bracket dosen't look too bad without the holder attached.... Works for me!

That thing is a crime against nature IMHO.

I took it off and installed two MiniFini cupholders which I LOVE.

http://outmotoring.com/mini_fini_cup_holder.html

They're down much lower and ratchet to many positions if installed at the right height. And still hold large cups. When ratched "in" over the top of the OEM cupholders, they look like the "belong" there IMO. And I added a second ashtray to fill both the non-functional OEM cupholders with "coinboxes" which work well.

But this is a very personal subject... I hold no ill will toward dummies - I'm sorry - PEOPLE who like the crime-against-nature cupholders.
Just kiddin.

Ya know, all you have to do, is pull down on the bottom of the cup holder pivot shaft until it clears the bracket, pull it to the side, and slide it up out of the bracket. You might just want it back someday in the future.

Yep, too bad MINI started installing their own cupholder. The MiniFini one that came installed in my 03 MC works great....and IMO, looks good.

I like it. Keep my XM Roady XT mounted to it and my cell phone clips on it too. I find it useful. :-)

Fill them then. If you remove the cupholder then you put the screws back into the tube. No new holes were made.

I find mine pretty useful myself. I usually have 2 cell phones that I have to carry and they fit just right in there and of course a big drinks fits just right there as well. I wasnt excited about it when I first took delivery but after using it a bit it grew on me and now I use it every time I am out and about.

When I first got in to test drive a MINI I was panicking because I looked down and noticed the cupholders were so small. Then I looked up. I don't know how I missed it. Yes, it's big and awkward but where else would I put my gallon-sized cup of soda?

Am I missing something?

Those holes are there from the factory wether you have a cup holder or not. Just take it off and put the torx screws back in.
