tint on the sunroof...

Greetings gang,
I had the sunroof on my 2002 MCS tinted recently...(about 1 month ago) with 5% limo tint.
A buddy of mine was going to do the same to his, but the tint guy said that the sunroof is tempered glass and has no way to dissipate the heat..(it's designed to let the heat through...
He said the Glass will eventually crack...
First time I heard this..any thoughts gang?

it ended up costing me more to do my sunroofs than the whole car. it was because its harder to do than everything. i think the tint guy is full of crap and didnt want to do the job so came up w/ a bs excuse

i got my tinted as soon as i bought the car. the weather in so. cal was horrendous so i had to cool my interior to the best of my ability. i got the mirror-tint on my sunroof to reflect the hot beams so it wont penetrate into my interior. i can say, it worked! my tints are all mirror, even the sides so i get less heat all around thus giving me less time for a/c.

yes, to all the ones who says its illegal, i know.

I call BS. I'm on my 2nd tinted sunroof...no cracks, no peeling (quality installer), nothing but positive results like cooler car in summer and cool looks! Just tell him, "dissapate this pal!"

Do we think that "Tint Guys" actually like to turn away business? It might be worth some research for those who have these awful plates of glass hanging over their heads every day.

i think people turn certain jobs away because they're lazy.

as a former caterer, i can tell you that i never wanted to tell a prospective client "no i don't want to do your party" or "no, there's not enough money in it for me to bother".

however, I never had any trouble saying "sure, no problem, that should be about $75 a head for your intimate brunch for 10 people".

same result...

Do a search on something like "cracked sunroof"

As much as everyone seems to want to call BS I have heard of sunroofs on MINIs cracking, tinted, hot weather. Not saying one was cause to the other but it wouldn't hurt to do the reasearch first. Just a thought.

BTW: the pics of the cracked sunroofs well to a MINI enthusiast they're pretty graphic.
